New Year's Eve

Post by mickster68 » Oct Mon 27, 2008 12:12 pm

Howdy! I was wondering if you all had any ideas for what to do in the Orlando area on New Year's Eve? We're leaving Tampa a day earlier than we had originally planned, and would like to do something near--or on--Disney property (we don't plan to go into the parks until Jan 3rd) Now that Pleasure Island is gone, I'm not sure what's going on down there, if anything. Keep in mind, we'll have 3 kids ages 4-9, so nothing too crazy! ;)
I just did a search, but couldn't find anything family oriented. I suppose we could always park ourselves outside one of the parks for the fireworks (?)
Thanks for your ideas!!!

The parks are absolutely crazy New Year's Eve, probably not the most enjoyable for a family with small kids. I tried searching the City of Orlando's events calendar and incredulously they apparently don't have a municipal fireworks show. You can always watch the fireworks from the resorts around the Seven Seas Lagoon, but of course those will be crowded too. I know Old Town in Kissimmee has a New Year's firework show, and is a not a bad place.

Awesome! I figured the parks and hotels would be nuts that night, but thought maybe we could perch ourselves on the beach at the Poly or somewhere. Getting in and out could be challenging, though. Old Town--that, too, would be cool. I just booked a room in Kissimmee for that night, and I know it's right down the road. I'll check into that! Thanks a lot!

I worked in EPCOT on New Years Eve last year and I highly recommend that a family with young children would probbaly be better off at the Magic Kingdom (less drunk people). Epcot was horribile and fun at the same time. It was a lot of fun because it does only happen once a year so it's nice to see people dancing in front of the Italy Courtyard and China courtyard to music you would normally hear in pleausre island - not World Showcase but at the same time, it does ruin some of the magic for you as you see people doing naughty things that a young child who happens to be walking by see - something a child shouldnt remember from his childhood at the most happiest place on earth.
I know this is probably your first flight...and it's mine too...ha, ha

Rain upon that planet Earth. And they rain ... and rain ... and rain. The deluge.

Oh, that DOES sound like good fun! I imagine some visuals could be potentially scarring to the younger set, yes--ha ha ;)
I think we'll stay out of the parks that night...though the thought of hanging out in the Magic Kingdom until 3am is very appealing! Hmmm
