T-Rex Cafe
Has anyone else heard about the new T-Rex Cafe coming to Downtown Disney? I just read about it in one of the online newsletters, then followed a link to the website. According to the newsletter (I think it was the Disney 'Hello') it is slated to open November 2008. I called Disney dining to see if they were taking reservations or knew if it would be part of the dining plan, but they told me they didn't have that information yet. The woman said the building was just finished, and there was no opening date set. It sounds awesome!!!
Just wondered if anyone knew anything more about it.
Check it out!

I was just there recently and it didn't look like it would be open for a while. I don't know how it will work, but my educated guess is it will be similar to the Rainforest over there. I know I would like to try it out sometime when I go back again.

I think it is their choice of wording. I would expect it to be the same exact stuff as Rainforest Cafe.

You just answered your own question. People want to eat there for the atmosphere, especially kids. And for having two restaurants, the company probably figures there will be enough people to fill both places. There is always an extremely long wait to get into the rainforest, so with two places, there can be a shorter wait so more people will want to eat at either place.Cheshire Cat wrote:Why does the company wnat two of their restaurants right next to each other?
I never understood the draw to eat at Rainforest Cafe to begin with. I mean the atmosphere is cool, but the food is so-so.

Yeah, we ate at Rainforest a few years ago (before kids) and thought it was so-so. T-Rex is not a place I'd normally be terribly excited about, or even want to try if we'd be traveling solo, but when the kids heard about it and read about the different rooms/themes they went into a true tizzy! I'm totally excited to take them. I just hope it's open when we go in January!

Funny you say that... we've had nothing but awesome meals at RFC. In fact, we've often commented on how refreshing it is to have a non-Disney choice. Their food is so different than the other Disney-owned restaurants, and it's nice to get to taste something different after a week of Disney food where everything tends to taste the same.Cheshire Cat wrote: I never understood the draw to eat at Rainforest Cafe to begin with. Rainforest doesn't have terrible food, but it is overpriced for the quality. I ate there in June (because my sister wanted to eat there) and there was a 90 minute wait. I think T-Rex is meant to split the crowds between the two restaurants. The similarity between the menus makes it a fifty-fifty split between the two.

Rainforest (and I assume T-Rex) are in the category of the Hard Rock, All-Star cafe and the like. You pay 25% for the actual meal and the 75% for the atmosphere. To me, those places aren't worth it. The exception for me is a place like ESPN or Game On. A sports bar type of place with a gazillion TVs. I'm sure for many of you it's the exact opposite.
kcarts,
I won't argue with you there. Our family just spent a fortune to eat at a Hard Rock Cafe' in Myrtle Beach. I was very disappointed, and felt that we paid way too much for what we got. I commented to my wife that we just paid for all of the memorabilia on the walls. I can see where you would feel that way about RFC.
