Hey All!
We have a family reunion in Sacramento at the end of June. We'll be flying into Ontario on a Thursday, and driving to Sacramento the next day. How's the traffic going to be? Mapquest says 6.5-ish hours. It has us going on I-10, I-210, and I-5. The reunion is on Saturday. We'll be driving back down on Sunday and hitting Disneyland on Monday (June 30). How's Sunday traffic coming back down?
Thanks!

So you're going from Sacramento to Anaheim? I'd say around 6-7.5 hours, depending on pit-stops and traffic. I think I did that route at least twice, and it's not too bad. Afternoon traffic is iffy.

Why not fly right into Sacramento? Or SF/Oak? Or San Jose?

We have free and reduced-priced tickets on Southwest. To use them on the days we needed, flying into Ontario was the best option. We did look into flying into one city and flying out of another, while getting a one-way car rental. But the seats just weren't available.

I see. Just seemed like a long ride after a flight. Although I prefer road trips to being cramped in a plane.

Drive report. On the way up, drove I-5 part of the way, and Hwy 99 the rest. On the way back down, I-5 all the way. The only traffic to slow us down was around Magic Mountain(mostly a few miles south of there). Far left lane was stop and go, the rest was 20 to 40 mph. We probably could have averaged 80 mph for the whole trip, but kept it under 75.
Odd thing we noticed traveling the vast stretch of vineyard and almond country: trucks use the right lane, autos use the left. Autos stay in the left and pass using the right. At points, it almost seemed dangerous to have such a large speed difference between trucks and autos. Guess that's why I'm not the Governator.

It might be kind of bad coming down into the Southern California area since that's always terrible with traffic, but hopefully it'll be better overtime.
