Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

Post by Cazza and Livvie's Mum » May Mon 19, 2008 4:47 am

Hi I'm doing my first Christmas visit to WDW this year, and have booked to go Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. I've read in other forums that MK gets too busy and it's not worth the money. Has anyone been and had a good time? I need some positive feedback!!

December 2nd 2008 I'm coming home!! :goofy_bounce:

We go every year. And so yes we have a good time.

Personally I've always advised people to do the "Special" Stuff at the parties. For Christmas, Mickey reads "A Visit From Saint Nick" (aka T'was the night before christmas.) They have Holiday Wishes (Wish fireworks with an alternate soundtrack) A Christmas Parade, and hot coco and cookies.

The parties do have less than the normal daytime crowds. But as Christmas approaches the crowds get worst. We go the week after Turkey day.

Since your sig says you are going down 2 Dec 2008 I'm assuming that is the trip, crowds shouldn't be bad at all. There is dip that week after Thanksgiving (the t-day crowds are gone, the kids still have a week or two of school left, the parks are sorta quite.)

I'm so excited for you Cazza and Livvie's Mum! You will have a wonderful time. My husband and I were at Disney in early Dec. '06 for our honeymoon and we did the MVMCP, and we LOVED it so much we went a second night!!! The crowds are not bad in early Dec. and we didn't think the MK was too crowded on the party night. If you can stick around for the second parade, it's not as crowded. The fireworks are amazing. Make sure you enjoy the hot coca and cookies! Also, notice the "snow" on Main St. Have a Magical vacation!!!

HI - I went this time last year and will also be going sometime the same week as you this year. I actually went twice last year. The first night was a Tuesday which had discounted rates and it was a little busy, not bad, but busy. I also went on Thursday night and it was wonderful - half the crowd as Tuesday evening. So this year I think I will attend Thursday December 4th. Holiday wishes is amazing and I agree with doing the special holiday "stuff".

My family and I have gone twice. It may be crowded, but not no where as crowed as during the day time hours. You are gonna love it. We got our picture taken, cokies, and hot chocolates, all part of the deal. Hot chocolate in Florida ???? Believe it or not, it gets real cold in the winter time, in Florida.

I love MVMCP! We go to it whenever we can.

The only complaint I've had with it was when we were there the week before Christmas. We attended the party and then found out the very next day that all of the party events were available during regular park hours that late in the season...all the shows, parades, etc. (pretty much everything minus the hot chocolate and cookies). We were not pleased, having spend the $45 or whatever it cost per person for the "special" event.

We're going to be there the second week in December this year (the week of the 7th) and we'll be attending MVMCP again.

Before you attend the party, get a map for it. Then, you can plan out your evening with all the different showtimes and such. It makes it a lot easier and more efficient. And I agree with boiler...plan to go to the second parade. It is much less crowded (this is almost always the case at WDW). And make sure you get a good spot for the fireworks! :)

The main draw for MVMCP was the special Holiday Wishes and the christmas parade at night (along with unlimited hot chocolate)

However, this past year they've started showing the parade and Holiday Wishes at night during normal park hours. In my opinion it's not worth the money anymore since the two biggest draws are now free.

what you would be paying for now is
-unlimited free hot chocolate (made with water  )
- special lights, projections and "snow" on main street
- some holiday character meet and greets and "parties" mainly for the youngsters

This is my complaint, too. But, at what point do they start doing this during regular park hours? The last time I was there for MVMCP was in 2005. My understanding is that in the past they only started doing this the week before Christmas.

So, if you are going before that, it is still beneficial to attend the party.

Last I knew they start doing the Christmas stuff durning regular park hours the week of Christmas (so the 18th-25th.)

So there are two advantages to doing a party. One is if you aren't at Disney in that time frame (which btw is some of the busiest time at the park.) And also they do cap the attendance at the parties although they seem to keep increasing that.

Oops... I forgot, I think you're right, I think it's only during the week of Christmas.

You're absolutely right! Even me, who loves the MVMCP, would have to think twice since most of the special things like the parade and wishes are open to everyone. That's what made it worth the 50 bucks.

You'd be remiss to go at Christmas and not book tickets for this party - it's a do not miss.

I would have to agree, my wife and I have done this each time we were down during December. (3 times). Each time has been great. And will continue to go to the party each time we go.

Thank you all so much for the comments and taking the time to reply! I am so looking forward to this Party. We are flying over the pond on 2nd December and going to MVMCP on 9th. We plan to do all the Christmassy things and I know for certain that when I see the snow on Main Street I will cry buckets! I love WDW so much, we only live a 70 minute flight from DLP but I need the 'real thing'. Thank you all once again. xx

We're deciding between going on the 9th or the 11th.
