Fort Wilderness Cabins?

Hey guys, I just saw something on the Travel Channel and one family was staying in the Fort Wilderness Cabins. They looked absolutely wonderful. I've only been over to Fort Wilderness to see the Hoop De Doo Review, but had never before considered it as a place to stay. Have any of you? If so, what did you think.

My questions are:

1.) How do you rate the transportation to and from other parks from Fort Wilderness
2.) Do they have a full-service restaurant there (besides the Hoop De Doo)
3.) Do you bring your own food from home. Or do you buy it there
4.) Do you still feel immersed in the "Disney Magic"
5.) Would you recommend it as a place to stay

It seems like there's so much to do there, especially for my 5-year-old very active daughter.

I've never stayed at the Cabins (though I've considered it a few times), but we do make a regular visit to FW to go to the Trail's End Buffet. It's a must-do breakfast for us at least once a trip. Yum. :9

As far as I know, that is the only 'full-service' restaurant, and it's not really full service beyond them bringing you drinks and clearing plates. You can boat/walk over to the Wilderness Lodge pretty easily, though. There's also a boat launch to the Contemporary, so if you're craving a proper sit down it's not that far away.

In July of 07, we stayed at Fort Wilderness but not in a cabin. We stayed in an RV. I highly recommend staying here if you want a different resort experience that has elements you can't get at a hotel. Fort Wilderness was full of Disney Magic as well as unique experiences. There is something about being surrounded by the Florida wilderness while on a Disney vacation. The sounds of the outdoors are powerful and it just feels fresh! As for the transportation, riding the boat to the Magic Kingdom was awesome. The boats come quickly and you don't wait very long. Riding the boat back at night after a full day at the park was very relaxing. The buses go to and from the other parks on a rapid schedule as well. Overall, Fort Wilderness was a fun and different resort experience.

Until 1996, I had NEVER stayed anywhere but FW!! I Love it over there BUT you need to be prepared for a slower lifestyle.
1) You ride a bus to the front or back of the resort and then catch a bus to where you are going. I don't know if this has changed or not. I LOVE the water ride to/from the other hotels and the MK.
2) "Full-Service" is a matter of your definition. They have the Trails-End Buffett (YUM!!) and a small sit down section as well but it certainly isn't the Concourse Steakhouse (RIP).
3) Depends on how I get there. When I drive, I take a bunch of fixins (FW talk). When I fly I buy essentials there. They have two well stocked (for campers) Trading Posts but if you aren't the camping type, you might find it lacking. It certianly isn't a Super Walmart (which I understand is just outside the agtes)
4) Fort Wilderness is THE most immersive Disney Experience for me. FW is home for me and childhood memories flood me when I think about it [ :'( ]. Of course the train has been removed and they don't have internal trams anymore. The lake swimming and River Country have been closed (probably best) and they added a HUGE pool and some smaller ones for swimming. That detracts but I completely understand it. They still have hay rides and campfires. LOVE the smell of campfires. I suggest anyone staying anywhere at WDW ride over to the FWC and get off at a loop near the marina and walk through one or two... It's a completely different universe in there with all those RVs.
5) I think I have already answered #5 with #1-4!!

I LOVE IT THERE and hate that I can't pull my trailer down there and use my DVC points.

Maybe someday I will drag it down there for my kids sake but they are too young now to make the memories...

YZFDonor, do you bring your own cooking utensils? Or are the cabins stocked with pots, pans and silverware?

My only issue with the cabins is there is only one bathroom but it can handle like 6 people. That's a dangerous combo

The cabins are FULLY stocked like a hotel room.

No Problem!! If you get a down half-day, go over there and check it out. You won't be disappointed. I go over and either ride around or take a walk. LOVE IT
