Best Checkin Day

Post by mousemaniacs » Jan Mon 21, 2008 9:37 pm

What check-in day [of the week] gives you the best chance for getting your preferred room selection? I imagine the answer is the day with the most turnover (families checking out). Do most people checkout on Saturday, because they have to drive home to their destination far way before the weekend is over? Or is it Sunday b/c most people fly into Orlando and can leave later? Or maybe a weekday for some unknown reason???

I say Wednesday but I always arrive on Sunday as it's the cheapest (DVC)! When I book my DVC ressies, I usually get the Tues and Wed right away and I have to build out from there. :mickey3:

I voted for Saturday....just because that's when we did it. We drove, and had Sat - Sun reservations.

not to put a damper on the poll or anything, but there's really no specified day to get your preferred room. You can actually request your special room when you book. We requested a special campsite on our trip in December 06, and we got it when we checked in on a Friday with no problems.

that said, I think sometime mid-week would be best, as the resorts aren;t quite as crowded during the week as they are on the weekends. especially during the off-peak times.

I realize you can make your room request when you book, but my question really relates to the likelyhood of you getting your request honored.

While hotel resorts may be slightly less crowded during the week, I worry that because there is less turnover (fewer rooms are freeing up during the week), you aren't very likely to get a specific room/area.

We typically go from Wed - Wed/Thurs and we've not only received our requests but we've been upgraded more times than not. Not really sure there is a pattern, but that's what has worked for us.

For just checking in and staying in general I have to say it all depends on the length of your stay. If you are only staying for a 3-day trip I would say Tuesday that way you leave before the Weekend crowds get there. If you are staying for a 5-day trip then I would say Friday that way you can still take advantage of the lite crowds before you leave, BUT you should get there early so you can get the preferred stuff you want. Any stay longer than 5-days would have to be on a case by case basis because if you are staying that long you may be leaving the property, statistically greater than shorter trips, and that would need to be taken into account.

I'd say that it depends on what time of year you're going. If you're traveling during a peak season time, you're going to have more trouble getting requests met, regardless of the day of the week (thanks to where holidays fall in the week that year). Your requests are most likely to be met during non-peak times of year. That's what I've read, and I've found it to be true in all of my travels. That said, I've found that I have greater success on weekdays (like Tues or Wed).

Tuesday has to be the best day, working at a hotel before even though it was not a Disney one, or even by an amusement park, Tuesdays were always quiet.
