Steve (spaulo) got to ride Spaceship Earth!

Post by AKLRULZ » Dec Wed 12, 2007 7:52 am

Got a text from Steve who is currently at WDW with his wife:
STOKED! We just got to ride the new Spaceship Earth! It was awesome, I will have to write it up for SSR when I get back!
I know we're all jealous and can't wait to hear more about SE and his trip! 8)

Sweet. I've been looking at all the reviews and stuff. Looks like it's going to be cool :)

I have a lot to say about our trip, of course, but it may take me up to a week to get it all down. I have 600+ (2.5GB+) photos I need to sort through and get uploaded to Flickr, and a few photoessays I have planned (including the loooong walk to our room at BWI!). I journaled a bit about our trip, we ate a lot of good food and saw every attraction we had wanted to, so I will do up a real trip report for y'all.

On the topic of SSE...

************ SPOILERS! SPOILERS! TEXT IN GRAY, HIGHLIGHT TO SEE IT! ************

The new ending is cool, but not as cool as I'd hoped. There are no more audio-animatronics figures after the "view of the earth" and the turn around for descent. After that, a screen installed on in front of you asks you questions about the future you'd like to build, and shows you a cartoon. It's cute, but it needs some bugs worked out. It specifically showed us some stuff when we'd selected the opposite option.

The good news is, those animatronics figures have been put to good use... in the first half of the ride! Scenes are now much more full of figures, and scenes that used to not have any... like Rome, for instance... now do. Also, the first half is not just a history of communication anymore, but of science and technology. For instance, the Greek scene is no longer actors at a play, but a mathematician explaining to a crowd the bauble he holds in his hand (it looks like a sextet of some kind).

Dame Judi Dench's voice is fine, but I missed Jeremy Irons (actually, I missed Walter Cronkite!). And the ride still begins with the line "like a grand and miraculous spaceship..." It's a nice touch, I thought.

************ SPOILERS OVER! ************

More later!
~Steve

let's not forget, they aren't even done yet, I was told there will still be more stuf added to the ending, thats why there are curtains up...but some people don't realize they are even there because they are focused on the screen. One of my friends just went up and was very disappointed, but then he realized it was sitll a work in progress.

Hi All: I was also able to ride SSE on Sunday, December 9th at around 7:30 PM. I was leaving the park because I was as sick as a dog. I got a terrible flu on Sunday and could just not handle the parks so I was heading back to the room. Never to ill to ride SSE. I tried to ride a second time so I could film it. Never thought of it the first time (must of been the fever) but they had already closed it.

Did anyone notice if the newsboy was back in the right spot. When I rode he was at the back with his back to us. Love some of the changes, but was a little disappointed with the descent.

Thanks for the spoilers since I had to cancel my Disney trip this year because of a new job.
