Cheshire Cat's Aug 07 Trip Report (w/ pics)

I just got back from a week at Myrtle Beach and two weeks in WDW and had a magical time as always. :D I won't bore you with details, but here's some things I thought were worth mentioning...

First of all there were LOTS of uneducated newbies this year. Not all, but most. Here's only a handful of the most hilariously ignorant things I heard people say:

"Pirates of the Caribbean had nothing to do with the movie"

(in front of Fantasmic sign at mgm with big yellow arrow) "Oooh! Fantasmic! What park is that in?"

"Disney MGM-Studios is part of epcot, right?"

(at the international gateway) guest: Where does this go? cm: this is the exit to the epcot resorts area guest: That's where the countries are, right?

(on it's a small world) "This is the most annoying song in the world, why didn't they pick something else for this ride"

(in front of the land) "I don't think this is soarin', it says 'The Land'. I think soarin' is in that building over there that says 'Imagination Institute'"

"Our hotel is on Tom Sawyer Island" ...WHAT!?! :?

...and the most shocking thing I heard...

(pointing to Cinderella Castle) "Look! It's Space Mountain!"

Aaaaaaaaaanyway... all ignorant newbies aside the trip was good for the shape the parks were in. There were construction walls everywhere at all the parks, and lots of things were closed (nothing we weren't prepared for though). However, one thing I wasn't prepared for were two matching construction walls that went up around the mgm hat and the imperial walker that said something about getting ready for a brand new show. They went up about five days ago near the end of our trip, anyone know what it is? Is it the Star Wars Weekend thing?

In other news...
~ The new RnR queue took me by surprise since i hadn't read anything about it
~ We went to Busch Gardens Tampa this year for the first time, and I thought it was WAY better than AK
~ Mouse Gear is selling vintage-looking EPCOT Center shirts and hats (I don't know if I've just been missing it or if it's a new thing this year)
~ Aunt Polly's Dockside Inn is now Aunt Polly's Refreshments... a soda machine
~ The Columbia Harbor House has great clam chowder
~ I still think Fastpasses are stupid (Space Mountain's standby got closed one afternoon for almost two hours because the fastpass line was out the door)
~ The technology in Monsters Inc. was really neat, but the show itself needs work
~ Finding Nemo was neat too... I guess...
~ Gran Fiesta Tour should be called "Finding Donald"
~ SSE looks awesome wandless
~ I think someone on this board mentioned that the noodle station was a great spot to watch wishes. Kudos to whoever that was because we tried it and it really is the best spot
~ You can see the Castle from Dr. Doom's Fearfall at IoA :D

On to pictures !!

SSE wandless, but not craneless:

A shot of the castle I really like for some weird reason:

(edit: thanks whoever moved the post I didn't remember until afterward  )

edit2: One other important thing that I've figured out is that most people don't go to the parks during the day anymore because of the heat, so the extra magic hours are loaded with people. So now there's basically the choice of waiting in full capacity queues or walking around in the blazing heat. We did a little bit of both.

Great post Chesire! Those comments made me laugh pretty hard, and I needed it since I'm at work. (And suppose to be working).

Alos those are great photos as well. Thanks for the update. I always love hearing people talk about what a great time they had. Disney World rocks!

Awesome trip report. It's amazing how people even get to the parks without knowing which park they're in.
