OK, experts...my family and I have three days (one is shortened arrival from DTW). With two daughters under 11, we figure one day has to be committed to the MK, but how do you suggest splitting up the others based on time in qeues, transport, and "must-sees"?

That's easy. AK is a half day park. You go to it when it opens and the you do MGM from about noon to closing, also call ahead for the Fantasmic package. This will get you diner reservations and great seats for the show!! MK and Epcot are at least all day parks if not longer. You give both of them full days. Remember when in Epcot make you big meal lunch, you will basically have the same menu choices, with cheeper prices!!
Good Luck!!!!!!!

yeah with kids that age I'd say splitting one day between AK and studios is the way to go... if you had teenagers, or kids WAY into movies or something, then maybe Studios would need a whole day, but I like the idea of AK morning, Studios evening for your split day.
