In the World...

...and having the most amazing time. We were at POR for the first part of our stay, then moved over to Wilderness Lodge for this week. I was not looking forward to this portion of the stay due to some pre-trip planning issues, but man, since getting here, it's amazing! My husband lost his camera battery charger and myself, my nightgown (boo hoo, must go shopping) and little niggling things going awry (ordered birthday cake for my son and they had the wrong name on the cake, just stupid little stuff) Well, the front desk felt we needed a little more magic in our lives and sent up a Christmas card from Mickey and Minnie and some special chocolates. The staff here is wonderfully friendly, and we are having a fabulous time. We even got to be the flag family for today (complete surprise, the family who was chosen didn't show up, we were in the right place at the right time)
I can't wait to upload all the holiday photos to share. Been wicked busy, but wanted to post a quick note. Quick, if you read this, I don't know if we will make it over to Mousefest now, as we're going to be extras in the holiday parade taping that day.

What is a "flag family"?

every morning at the Wilderness Lodge, they raise the American Flag on the roof. I think it's done around 6:30 or 7:00 AM. There's a little ceremony that goes on, and one family is chosen each day to help. From what I've heard, the views are fantastic, and it's a real honor to be chosen on any day (as everyone requests it, but not everyone can get it).
I can't find anything on the official site right now, but I'll look for stuff a bit later. Mickeymac I'm sure can elaborate on some of the details...

Just read it now (meaning after I got back). Too bad we didn't meet up at Mousefest

JS is right, and it's quite an honor. The amazing thing is, a family can ask to be chosen, and yet when selected, often will not show up. I just don't get it. That's what happened to us. I asked at check-in, but nothing was available for the week, as everyone had been selected. My husband happened to be talking to a CM when Stan exited the elevator to head to the ridiculous number of stairs to take him on the roof, and said that his family didn't show up. They invited us - called me back in the room where I was working and I sprinted up there! It truly is amazing. I got some fabulous pictures of the iconic figures at the MK, and the Poly, Contemporary, and the 'Red Roof Inn' as well as Epcot, MGM, and AK. Stan even made me cry. It was a wonderful experience. Also joining us was Steve from the Passporter, who took like a bazillion pictures. It was neat.
Matt, we got pulled into the VIP section on taping day, and didn't leave. What an experience. I was bummed I missed Mousefest though - how was it? Sometimes I wish I could clone myself and do it all.

It's certainly an experience, to say the least. It was nice being able to meet some people in person. I know I had a hoot hanging around the Unofficial Guide table most of the afternoon.

They are a riot. I love their sense of humor. I would love to watch their brain at work during the meet. You're right, it certainly is an experience!
