We will definitely do that, F.G. We climbed a mountain in Mazatlan, Mexico to see the historical lighthouse there, and we bribed the guard into letting us actually go all the way up inside it. Amazing view of Mazatlan and the Pacific. Lighthouses rock!Future Guy wrote: If you ever feel up to it, you really should go over to the island and go to the top of the lighthouse. There's no elevator, you'll have to climb the stairs, but the view is worth it!

I'm there, bro! I am a shrimp-eating kind of guy! Maybe that's where we can meet up in November!mindflipper wrote:... if Mousekecouple wanted to switch out steak for fried shrimp, they could head over to O'Steens over on the island too. Family run and long-lines for decades, but great food & affordable price are hard to beat!
And by the way, all you well-done steak eaters make me shake my head in sadness. Ruining a good steak by practically burning it.... tsk, tsk....

Teasing, of course. But I do like mine medium, or medium rare; depending on how much I trust the chef.

Oh, and by the way.... please stay tuned for the next day of our madcap adventure... it's sure to thrill and charm you.... coming soon to a thread near you..........

This one, of course.......

Amen brother!!!!mindflipper wrote:Sorry, but if all it takes to bring the steak back to life is defibrillator paddles, I'll pass on eating it! I want my meat cooked!
Oh dear, so I will make sure I watch the news Turkey week....there's liable to be some newsmaking mayhem caused in Florida...though I'd really be scared if Jacca showed up!

actually, I think it would be a blast!

Day 9, Wednesday December 16, 2009
Narrative by Mousekedude
We started off the day very tired, and didn’t feel like rushing to get to our breakfast reservation at Crystal Palace, so we just took it easy got ready at our own pace. Since this was to be Amber’s parents’ last day with us on this trip, they had to get all packed and stuff anyway. After all of the luggage was ready to go, we headed down to the lobby to leave it with the bell hop, and then went into The Artist’s Palette for egg/bacon/cheese croissants and breakfast potatoes. Yum! That stuff had come in handy several times on this trip. What was really funny was that the picture her dad had drawn the day before was still there (they had a spot with paper and crayons where kids can draw pictures and display them):

Funny thing about that picture: we like to think that we are somewhat refined and sophisticated to a normal socially-acceptable degree (we’re not snobs by any means), but sometimes our family’s redneck roots show through. Her dad’s picture was a prime example of that. It’s a hillbilly catching a gator with a fishing pole, and he’s saying, “I got me a gator, y’all!â€

Here is a little side story about the balloon you see in the picture above.
On each trip it is a must to get a balloon! I guess it is just the kid in me. I remember going to Disney Land as a teenager and all my parents could afford to get me was some candy. Because we never really traveled much, just going to DL was special. I knew how hard my parents had to work for this trip and so just getting there was a treat. Souvenirs were not a priority.
Now, as an adult I see things differently. On our first few trips to WDW I spent a small fortune. I must own almost 100 pins some of which are collector’s items. I have since calmed down and no longer feel the urge to buy something at EVERY gift shop at the end of EVERY ride.
One thing though that has not changed is my desire for a balloon. My favorite is the princess balloon! At the end of each trip we prep the balloon for travel (this usually involves a sharp pin and a few quick folds). This year was to be different. I wanted to give back to society. So on my last day I took this perfect pink balloon and left it in the dining room on one of the artist drawing pallets with a sign that said “Free balloon, please take itâ€

Hey, let's start a trend! Everyone who posts here on Subsonic can leave a balloon on their next trip, with a note that says something to the effect of "Subsonic people giving back". That would be cool, and people would start wondering what it's all about, and they'll google Subsonic and find us here, and our family will grow! Wouldn't that be awesome?
P.S. Stay tuned for Day 10, coming soon!

I'm almost certain of it! Why else do people buy so much? (on a side note, it funny this came up since DH and I were talking about this exact subject this morning!)mindflipper wrote:Maybe the subliminal signal is transmitted through the music over the various speakers? It would explain all those outdoor speakers pumping out "area music" every five feet...![]()

$10-$18 for a frakking (excuse my Caprican) balloon? I had no idea they cost that much! What do they do for that much money, penetrate North Korean airspace? That's as much as I spent on my super-cool Boba Fett hat at Tatoonine Traders.Mouseoholic wrote:Provided they do not increase the price of balloons. $10-18 is already ridiculousness =) I swear they spray something in the air or pass subliminal messages on attractions to spend, spend, spend........![]()

When we go, we're mostly able to control the urge to spend uncontrollably. On this last trip, the only piece of merchandise that I bought on impulse were a couple of pins (the one with a Stormtrooper wearing a Mickey hat, and the one with the Imperial symbol with Mickey ears) I think it has something to do with the fact that you can't find most of this merchandise anywhere else, so there's this tremendous pressure to buy all the cool stuff you see because who knows when you'll be back.
