Great report so far, MmeLeota! Glad to see you contributing to the mayhem!
Okay, time to go on with my part of the report. As I said, my memory of everything is a little foggy, but I’m pretty sure the rest of Day 1 went something like this:
After we greeted the Boilers in the lobby, they wanted to get settled in and then do a few things they had planned with her parents. So we parted ways for the time being, and Mouseoholic and I decided to walk over to DHS and see what kind of mayhem we could stir up. The crowds were hellacious (see my previous post… the one with crowd pics and commentary), but we did manage to see the newly refurbished Star Tours without too long a wait. C-3PO has always been one of my favorite characters from Star Wars:
The rest of the day is kind of a blur, but I do remember that we decided to go over to Epcot in the evening for Jalapeno Margaritas and something to eat. When we got our ‘ritas at La Cava, we immediately headed out to try finding something munchable as quickly as possible before Illuminations started. As we passed the entrance to La Hacienda, we decided on a whim to see if we could get in without having ADR’s. To our surprise, we scored! It was almost 9:00 (closing time), but they let us in anyway… we were the very last customers they allowed in! Not only that, but we got seated at a table next to a window with a great view of the lake! Mouseoholic was ecstatic!
When Illuminatations started, the family at the table next to us had just left, so we had that whole section to ourselves. We didn’t even have to stand up to see the fireworks. I was able to take these pics from my seat. They’re not the best quality because I was shooting through the window and the camera had a hard time focusing through it due to the reflections from inside, but you can see that our view was great:
Having had a thoroughly enjoyable evening despite the shock of the crowds that day, we strolled casually through the World Showcase…
…and then headed out the back gate to the Boardwalk. We were staying in one of the Garden Suites, and by chance the Boilers’ room was a couple floors right above us. So we called them to come out on the balcony and wave good night when we got back:
Not a bad first day!
