I was just going to post something about that since I just read about 3,000 flights being cancelled this weekend....Len90 wrote:Hey everyone thanks for the concerns. As far as places to be stuck, you could do worse than Disney World. How have you worked out the hotel situation?Len90 wrote:Hey everyone thanks for the concerns. My family and I are stuck here in Disney World. Flights are cancelled and we are now scheduled to return home on Thursday at the latest.

I just discovered this thread, although I've mentioned a couple things about Irene on other threads.... Len, I've been worried about you guys. Glad you're not being attacked directly by this beast, but sad that your return trip has been so messed up. But like everyone else is saying... what better place to be stranded than WDW?

Prayers and pixie dust to you and yours, bubba.

Hope all is well. Hate to echo all the echoes, but I'm thinking WDW is a nice place to be if the weather isn't too bad!mindflipper wrote:As far as places to be stuck, you could do worse than Disney World. ...as long as there's no problem extending the hotel stay. I'm hoping they don't have to relocate (sometimes, if the hotel is fully booked, they can't extend it as there are already other reservations for that room)...

Re: Beware of Irene!!!
With any luck, if that is the case, the people that are incoming are delayed with their flights as well so Len and family can stay put!! Although I wouldn't wish anyone not being able to fly in to Disney on time, that would be sadmindflipper wrote:...as long as there's no problem extending the hotel stay. Re: Beware of Irene!!!
Haha thanks everyone. We're working on staying over at the YC but it will all come down to costs. I honestly don't care where I'm stuck as it's to the point where I just want to go home. We are expected to take a rough hit from Irene where we live. About 20 miles from us is under mandatory evacuations. As MmeLeota said, about 3,000+ flights are cancelled as Newark, JFK, and LaGuardia are all completely closed. Almost all the airlines are flying their planes out of the vicinity as well.

Re: Beware of Irene!!!
I talked with Len90 earlier today, and he and his family are okay. They've had to relocate to the Beach Club, and have had some problems with re-scheduling a flight out on the airlines. So far, the best they've got on return flights are for Thursday. Additionally, they've checked out about driving the rental back to NJ but the charges from the rental company are far too prohibitive. Meanwhile, they're stuck with finding some ways to keep themselves occupied in the meantime in Orlando. I don't think they want to do more park visits as that would mean purchasing more tickets, and as this vacation is already extending itself there could be some economical limitations coming into effect. Meanwhile, Len90 is unhappy by the fact he will have to miss the first day of the fall semester at Rutgers due to this delay. It means when he gets back, he will immediately thrown into classes a tad bit late; therefore, his return to the boards may take longer than expected and the same may be said concerning his trip report...

I'm glad you had the chance to talk to them and they are making the best with the situation they've been put into. It's always fun to joke about having to stay longer at WDW, but it does come with real expenses attached. And I am sure they are worried about their home being ok as well. Throwing in being late to start your senior of college just adds to all the stress. I'm hoping the rest of his family has understanding work places too! We're always patient about trip reports, even if we teasemindflipper wrote:I talked with Len90 earlier today, and he and his family are okay. Re: Beware of Irene!!!
We're staying in Disney for the remainder. The resort is going above and beyond to ensure it's guests are safe on property and not being taken advantage of.

Wow Len, my heart goes out to you and your family. As mentioned in this thread already, we joke about being stuck in Disney as awesome, but there are additional expenses plus, I know you are worried about your home and school. Try and enjoy the time you have and safe travels to you and your family! I'm glad to hear that Disney as gone above and beyond to make your extended stay as pleasant as possible. Pixie Dust and hugs!!!!
