Mayhem on the High Seas!!! The Mousekecouple take a cruise, Part 2 (continued).
Now the time has come for the most exciting part: Sail Away!!!
A cold front was blowing through. So the weather was cloudy, windy, and getting cold, but our spirits were high. We staked out a good spot on Deck 12 that overlooked the main pool where the party would be held so that Mouseoholic could get some good pics:
The excitement of the crowd was easy to see:
Finally the party started with a group of cast members getting on stage and busting some dance moves:
Then Captain Mickey and the Gang came out and busted some wicked moves of their own:
Meanwhile, I staked out a spot on the railing to watch for cast-off:
Finally, the time came! The push-off was so smooth that we couldn’t feel it. It seemed like the ship was sitting still and the land was moving away from us. I frantically tried to get Mouseoholic’s attention so that she wouldn’t miss it, and finally she looked my way and rushed over in time to catch one pic of the process:
As we headed out through the ship channel the sides were lined with well-wishers waving us off. At the further end was a park where people actually came and set up lawn chairs and tailgate parties to watch the cruise ships set sail and wave at the passengers (you can see it in the upper right side of the following pic, almost to the end of the channel…). There was also a live web-cam at that spot that we were aware of (Mouseoholic had been watching the Dream set sail on it for weeks before our trip…

), and we had been texting the Boilers to watch us on it as we passed by and waved. The operator of the web-cam would zoom in on the upper decks so you could actually see individual passengers waving, and we knew just where to stand to get in on this. The Boilers texted back that they could see us! It was so cool!
As we sailed out of the Port, I gleefully pondered the Mayhem to come while I admired the gorgeous sunset:
We would have stayed up on deck longer, but by now the wind was really starting to get cold and I was shivering my tush off (side note: we would outrun the cold front overnight so that it was actually hot the next day at our first port of call in Nassau, but the front later caught up with us again on the second day when we arrived at Castaway Cay…). Besides, we wanted to get back to our stateroom and relax for a little while before getting on with the rest of our evening. We were scheduled to see the “Golden Mickeys” stage show, followed by the late seating for dinner, so that left us time to chill in our stateroom for 20 or 30 minutes to finish organizing our unpacked luggage and get settled in. I even had time to bust out the bottle of my favorite Scotch I had brought for the occasion and sip a little on the veranda while watching the waves go by

(I put on a jacket, of course….

). I was in heaven!
Finally it was time to go to the theater for the Golden Mickeys. They wouldn’t allow us to take any pictures of the show itself, but we did manage to get a couple shots of the inside of the theater before the show started:
The show was amazingly good. We were very impressed by the “Broadway quality” of everything, and were amazed that they could pull off such a thing on a ship. They had moving sets, pyrotechnics… the works! And the quality of the performers was top-notch. After the show we went back to the Enchanted Garden restaurant (where we had eaten lunch) for an awesome dinner. Dinner was actual “sit-down” with waiters and all, as compared to the buffet at lunch. Our servers were efficient, friendly, and talented, and we had a wonderful time. We had purchased the wine-pairing package for all our meals, and were impressed with the selection and quality of the wines. During our dinner the seas began to get a little rough. We didn’t get seasick, but a few people did. One poor girl in particular was in horrible shape, and as she staggered past our table I was afraid she was going to erupt all over me

(fortunately she made it out of the restaurant without incident). After dinner we did a little shopping in the “mall”, and it was kind of funny to experience for the first time what it felt like to be at sea. We kept staggering around and bumping into the merchandise displays for the first hour or so until we got our “sea legs” and got used to adjusting for the movement. After a while we got so used to it that we almost forgot about it. Finally we decided it was getting late, so we went topside for a last walk around the ship. The pool and top decks were mostly deserted by now (the cold probably played a part in that…), so we got some nice pics:
And with that, we returned to our stateroom to get some sleep and prepare for the next day’s adventures.
That concludes Part 2 of this report. Stay tuned for Part 3, coming soon!
