Okay, for those curious about the magic bands I got some pics for you. I made my reservations this past Saturday, then I got an e-mail on Tuesday that they had been shipped by UPS, and they were already delivered to my house by the time I got home that day! Here's a pic of the box that MagicBands came in:

And here's what the MagicBands looks like:

We check into the Contemporary on August 23, for 3 nights. We then are going to be staying at the Beach Club. I was told after Monday, the 26th, the park admission would still be on the band, but thats about it. I am super excited to try these out.
:figment: When will you be there, mindflipper?
I will be arriving on August 22 for just the one night stay. We'll be in the Magic Kingdom on August 23rd and doing Steam Train Tour in the morning. We plan to leave about 7 PM to head back home.

You should have opted for the RFID card, real men don't wear tags like cattle. :D

Honestly, after I thought about it, I wish I had opted for one of each just so I could see what the RFID card would look like, but it was already too late. There's not much time after you make your selection before they're already processing the order.

I think the cards might not have been out yet, but there is always the badass option of dissolving the band with acetone or other solvent (depending on the composition) and placing the components in something else.

I had thought of something like that...

The cards are available, but if I remember right the bands are the default. They are pushing the bands. And why you may ask? Well, because Disney Marketing has seen this as a whole new revenue stream to replace Vinylmation. If you look back at the pic I posted of the bands, you can see there's an orange and green colored portion. That part can be removed. At a gift shop in the Contemporary, you can purchase a replacement for the colored part of the band of different Disney Designs. There are also "accessories" that can you can attach to the band. Gotta love marketing.

Also, it seems a bit of social networking is being introduced with this. There's a way connect others who are registered with the disney websites and have bands so that if you want to link them to the FastPass+ you have already selected, you can.

You shut your god darn mouth right now! The replacement is Disney Infinity! (Similar to Activision's Skylanders series but with more stuff to buy and using Disney/Pixar characters)

What I would rather do is either transfer it to a phone that can handle NFC or clone the band/card to a ring. I don't think it would cause an issue with the park ones since I think they are passive devices unlike the card that my car uses that won't run if the battery in it goes out.

But...if you could use a smart-phone...how will that make money on those disney-design replacement inner bands and all the other accessories that go with the MagicBands?!?

By having a large man beat anyone not wearing at least $30 ($40 for children) worth of accessories, regardless of if they have a magicband or not.

You two are too funny!
Did you make your FastPass+ and dining ressies as part of the whole Magic Band ordering process?
I like the ring idea that Wizz has...any excuse for more jewelry! Needs more sparkles though ;)
A question for mindflipper, isn't the RFID chip in the colored portion of the band. So if you remove that portion and replace it with something from the gift shop, wouldn't you no longer have a functioning band? I know they have little fabric sleeves that go over the bands, is that what you are talking about?

I don't think it is, as it appears from checking out the internet its the part that can be replaced. I believe the RFID is in the black band itself. After all, the colored part of the band (which the instructions show can come off) is what they're selling in the store at the Contemporary:

The replacement bands you can buy, plus the charms, reminds me of the Mickey Crocs and the charms you could buy to snap onto those.

My mother has a pair. And several charms.

Hi Mindflipper!!! The bands look cool to me! :D You will have to let us know how that all works out for you! I hope we are able to take advantage in Dec. I hope you have a great trip as well!

Of course Disney is going to try and make $ on the bands, they want you to bling it up!

They might actually keep all the copper centrally located so that you don't accidentally set off a reader.

You could probably add sparkles to the rings, but that is done on your own volition. :D

When it comes to Amy and sparkles, I don't think volition is at all in question. :D
