Re: Free Dining
I always wonder about The Shaming of America's rules regarding foods that can and cannot be carried past security. There's a pastry shop up north that I always have to bring back macarons from but I always just pack them in my checked bag since they have a filling and I am not about to throw out a bunch of french pastry because someone in a sweatervest won't let me carry them on board.

We ended up giving a lot of those to the hotel CMs too

Re: Free Dining
Which were the places that had offered the dessert option? If you can remember any/all.

Re: Free Dining
You get a dessert with both lunch and dinner with the quick service dining plan. Technically you get a dessert in the morning too since you get a muffin or donut or pastry, but they don't call it a dessertelizabethswann wrote:Which were the places that had offered the dessert option? So, pretty much anywhere you ate you can choose from at least two options. The absolute best place for dessert options on the QS meal plan was the Sunshine Seasons food court in the Land. They had a pastry/dessert section all the way down by the beverage counter that had really good desserts. This is where I found my beloved rice krispie brick that actually was made on property and tasted wonderful, unlike the mickey mouse shaped rice krispie treats on a stick that have been farmed out and don't taste all that wonderful anymore

Here is a link that explains the quick service plan quite clearly and lists all the locations that participate.

You always get the dessert and the chocolate cake is the most prevalent, thus why we were sick of it.elizabethswann wrote:Which were the places that had offered the dessert option? If you can remember any/all.

Of course there are some counter services that have really nice and different dessert options!

How funny! Come to think of it, I did have cravings for and make a chocolate cake not long after that trip and just now put that connection together.jlpeaches255 wrote:Then again, I went through chocolate cake withdrawal after our trip!

Re: Free Dining
Amy is right about the Sunshine seasons the deserts there are great. The apple crisp at Columbia harbor house is good as well. I could miss the ice cream desert at China but the ginger cake at Japan was superb. When you eat at the resorts you can have anything from the bakery as desert this included Choc chip ice cream at Port Orleans.
You can get Cinnamon Roll in the morning here as well which is classed as a snack and although the Funnel cake guys at Epcot said no you can get Funnel cake at Sleepy Hollow in MK with a snack option.

Mmmm, funnel cake! I noticed there seemed to be some discretion on the part of the CMs on what you could or couldn't get with a snack credit. And sometimes they would substitute something and sometimes they wouldn't. We just learned to ask every time.Sleepy90 wrote:Amy is right about the Sunshine seasons the deserts there are great. Captain Cook's at the Polynesian is the best because you can get self serve Dole whip as your dessert!

Re: Free Dining
My family always would try to get waters instead of the desserts. It really helped on hot days! Also, we found that the counter-service credits didn't go as quickly as we thought we ended up with some extra.
A family friend was curious about the dining plan, and if it really is a deal. They got the dining plan on their last visit and used it effectively for sit-down meals, snacks and counter-service. They used every credit. When they were ordering, they tried to get the most expensive item in order to maximize their savings. When they did this it turned outthat you actually are saving money on meals. My friend did the calculation and kept a tally. He said to make the Disney Dining Plan a real value, you have to use all the credits and get the more expensive items. Otherwise, it may be more expensive to use the dining plan than to charge food and snacks to the room.

Re: Free Dining
We swear by the Free dining plan-It saves us a HUGE amount of money (Family of 5, 3 adult sized). If we tried to pay for the food we bought it would be $200 to $300 a day or more. Our next trip is for 8 days-that's $2000 ($250 x 8)-I know the 30% off would be nice but the dining plan works for us!!

Re: Free Dining
I would say this would be a time when the Free Dining Plan would be worth it. For parties of 2 people you won't save enough compared to the room discount...but with 4+ people you save a lot more.rphillips14 wrote:We swear by the Free dining plan-It saves us a HUGE amount of money (Family of 5, 3 adult sized).
