Ok, now that I am at the house, I can be on here without any quilt :D

Everyone seems to be in agreement that going alone has its added benefits and perks. I think it's just getting over the initial fact that you are there by yourself, then once you say HEY I AM BY MYSELF COOL!!!! and start the adventure inside the parks after awhile you probably don't realize that you are alone and get caught up in the activities. I am certainly feeling better about taking a trip by myself.

Foldmama, definitly take the tours, I think that would be awesome, and I am sure there are lots of solo people doing that as not everyone in the group usually wants to do those, so one person might opt to go it alone. Fall into one of those groups with the flags and pretend you belong..ha ha ha

MissPrincess, I can see where going ahead by a day and then meeting up with your family would be great, cause you know that eventually you will get to hang out with them if you get bored being by yourself ..hee hee

Mickeymac, you have me pretty psyched about mousefest......sounds like it would be wicked awesome to attend, I will definitely look into that.

I think if we took a poll on here that most men would say going solo would be a piece of cake and they would love to do it at least once! The women, I don't know how that would turn out maybe 60/40 that they would like to or have taken a solo trip to the park, and I am talking about longer than 1 day alone at any park.
Spaulo is right I bet no-one notices you are a solo traveler. Its all in my mind  that they do. And Spaulo, congrats on your engagement!! Awesome!!

Ok, gotta go do the window updates.

On my last trip, I traveled with my brother but a lot of the time, we got sick of being with each other, we each wanted to do our own thing, so alot of the trip, we were on our own and I loved it.

I loved going to anywhere I want and not have to dictate another person to follow me or me follow them. I mean it wasn't the same if i wanted to share an experience with another person especially because I am very chatty but I enjoyed relaxing on the bench, watching the people as they go by and not have to worry about someone else who wanted to go on another ride.
I know this is probably your first flight...and it's mine too...ha, ha

I went solo for a weekend in Jan. LOVED IT.....didnt have to compromise on what to ride, when to go, etc. Also it worked to my advantage when it came time for dinner, I didn't have adr anywhere as I wanted to play it by ear, and was welcomed in immeadtely (sp?) at Ristorante Alfredo.... :D. I always use my time to get in some people watching......and get caught up on my journel

Here's a thought....if we ever do a Subsonic meeting at WDW, we can ALL be on a solo trip and still be part of a group for things like meals or snacks, etc.

Ok, today I went to Wendys for lunch, I usually bring my lunch and eat behind my desk, but today I decided to go to Wendys and sit down and eat. Like I mentioned in my posts earlier..............this little girl having lunch with her daddy said "how come that lady is by herself" I wanted to burst out loud laughing, he said something to which I couldn't hear but I heard him say "or she could be on break from work". I just thought it was too funny! She was a little chatty kathy for sure. I think she was maybe 4 cause she had her dolly sitting in the high chair while she sat in the "big girl chair, like daddy". She asked her dad a bazillion questions and talked non-stop the whole time I was there. I would've gone nuts (God knew to give me a son!) but the dad was so laid back and was great with her, answered all of the questions. Anyway, just thought I would share, cause the one time I decide to go eat lunch solo, I KNEW SOMEONE would wonder why "that lady is alone", just didn't know it was gonna be a 4 yr old....ha ha ha

OK, Bostoncq you are on your way. Funny enough due to all the years I worked in Manhattan I have no problem eating in a fast food place by myself. It's just those darn nice restaurants. I have every intention of eating in one of the nice restaurants at least once while I am in Disney. Just six weeks to ago. I starting to get really excited and I cannot wait to take the tours. I have been wanting to do these tours for over ten years!

Mickeymac.....question for ya

Post by disneydreamer58 » Apr Mon 10, 2006 11:25 am

Hey Mickeymac.......I wanted to price out a singles trip to WDW in 2007 but don't see where the 2007 rates are available yet, I went on disney.com to their destinations and put in wdw, but they didn't have 2007 to book yet. Do you have 2007 rates at your agency yet?

If we get an interest in doing a single/solo trip next year, I think off-season like Sept. would be good, but what do you suggest?

from what I got from a WDW phone rep, the new rates are available every October. That's when I last spoke with them which was about a year ago.

In June of 2005 I got a chance to spend most of a week at DLR solo. I had just accepted a new job so I had very little time to set anything up and no one I knew wanted to go. I also had a week in April 2006 while I was in LA for a conference, again solo.

Over the six days in June, I walked my poor feet to death but had a blast. I had no problems with people saying anything about being solo, but it did get old not having someone to share the time with. Luckily Sub and Shinku met up with me one of the evenings which really made things better.

In April though I took my time and tried to enjoy things which were different, like the first evening the Mark Twain was out which is the only time I think I have ridden it at night. Since Fantasmic had it every other night I was there the last few years it was something different to get to do.

There are definetly benefits on a few of the rides for single riders like on Soarin and California Screamin'. However I got put with random people once on PoTC, and on the Sun Wheel. The rest of the time I was given my own car or boat row. I even had a whole IaSW boat to myself as there ended up being a long line for one side and no one even in the other one. I did feel a little strange with full boats in front and behind me, and the fact my boat did not travel as fast as it should because of the lack of weight, but I just tried to ignore it and have fun.

One fun thing is seening the CM's frown when their car filling strategy gets messed up by a single. After reading Subsonics memories of filling Star Speeders it gave me a new insight to how they try to juggle it, and it is just fun when they have to quickly change gears to make things work. :)

Eating is weird though as so many tables are set up for 4-6 people. Though Riverbelle Terrace was never that busy while I ate there I did worry about blocking so many seats if it had been busy. For dinners I have always eaten at the Mexican place in DCA and the warf out towards the pier is always empty. Its a beautiful view of the sun wheel, coaster and such, plus no one is around to make you wonder if they even noticed you are alone. :)

Probably the best thing is not worrying about how fast to walk places, you can go at whatever speed you want, stop when you want, and can go wherever you want. Plus no one is there to complain you are eating too many churros. :)

The only CM's which ever said anything were in Fantasyland, one joked about how my group was too scared to ride Casey Jr. It was really late in the evening and I ended up too slow and no place I wanted to sit was left open, so I opted to wait for the last train of the evening. It was worth the wait as I got the caboose facing backwards (oh the memories), too bad the brake wheel no longer turns :( In addition the chatty cast member helped brighten the day significantly.

So yes it can be fun, but its best shared whenever possible.

At least I know there are people like the ones on this board I can share the stories with that understand that going alone doesn't make you strange. ;)

Speaking only for myself. I find it very comforting being alone at WDW or EPCOT because...

1. I can go wherever I feel like without having to adhere to someone's planned iteniary.

2. I can't expect everyone to experience the parks the same way I do such as my mother. For her it's very tiring.

3. Eating alone is fine to me and I'm OK with it. I'm not self conscience about looking foolish.

4. I use that time to more or less clear my mind and don't dwell on feeling sorry for myself. That's the last thing I ever do.

It's in all in how you look at it.
Friendships are a blessing. Don't waste it on people who can't appreciate it.

Hi Everyone: I lost access for a while so I have been off the boards. Well, I leave for my solo trip in 12 days. I am so excited! I have my itinery and reservations totally made. I am now so looking forward to this solo trip. Work has been extremely busy and I have been working a lot of OT. My best friend's (friends for 35 years) Mom has been ill and I have been helping them out. Stress level has been extremely high and I really need to go away. I have even made dinner reservations at a few places in Epcot. I am so looking forward to doing what I want at my own pace. I know I will miss the company and meals will be the hardest but I decided I am not going to be self couscience, or at least I will do my best not to be. So nice to know there are other out there that feel the same as I and have had a great time going solo. It's really funny, but one of the things I am most looking forward to is hearing the music in the parks (especially at Epcot) while I am there. I have come to love the background music so much since joining this board. I promise a full report when I return.

In the meantine, this morning my sister-in-law and I planned our dates for our November family trip.

So get ready Riverside, here I come. I actually spoke to a CM at Riverside and said i would most likely be much happier in the Mansion side by my self.

The count down is really on!
