I just saw via a blogpost on twitter that the registration for the 2013 WDW marathon weekend opened today. I guess this is going to the the 20th anniversary of the WDW marathon? I would love to sign up for the 5K and commit to a trip in January, but I can't right now. We will have to wait a little bit to see if we can pull it off or not.

Anyone else planning on going for the marathon weekend??? Could we possibly see a "part trois"???
well.....
I may have inadvertently ;) talked my brother and his wife into running with me next year. If you recall from my (as yet unfinished) TR, I ran with my Sis-in-law last year. Stay posted!

And I hope to have my TR finished here real soon :D

We interrupt this thread-hijacking to bring you an on-topic post!

Mousekecouple Mayhem: The Final Shots

Well, it’s been so long since the trip, that now I can’t remember the days and so forth at all. But I do have some pictures of the last couple of days that I’d like to share. We spent quite a bit of time with the Boilers and Soarin in the last couple of days of our trip, so these pictures will reflect those events. You’ll probably recognize some of these from other random posts I’ve made in this and other threads, but I’m including them again here because they really belonged in the context of this part of the narrative. Anyway, here we go….
One evening we reminisced about the night we first met the Boilers by getting together for an “anniversary” dinner with them at the Flying Fish, the same place we went when we first met. It was an awesome dinner, and a wonderful evening of good times sharing memories and new experiences with good friends. To cap off the evening, they came to our suite for drinks on the balcony:

Image

Then we met up with them for breakfast at the Crystal Palace (I believe it was the next morning…?):

Image

After breakfast we spent some time creating mayhem at Magic Kingdom. Naturally, no mayhem at MK would be complete without Dole Whips and the famous “Boilerbabe Dole Whip Dance.” I even joined in with her myself (although my version isn’t worth seeing   ):

Image

Now, I don’t remember if it was later that night or the next night, but at some point we were joined in the evening by our wonderful new pal, Soarin08. The BTG’s were invading M.K. en-masse, so the crowds were horrible. We stood around for a little while trying to figure out what we could do without having to deal with long wait times, and then we spotted this:

Image

So we figured, “hey, anything with only a five-minute wait is definitely worth doing! Let’s go for it!”

Image

We were glad we did, because we got some nice shots with Mickey and Minnie:

Image

Minnie even wanted us to give a shout-out to Len for her (she still loves you, buddy):

Image

After that, we decided to take a trip on the park train so we could catch of glimpse of the construction at BTMRR, and hopefully even see “over the wall” at the Fantasy Land project. Here’s BTMRR:

Image

We weren’t able to see much in Fantasy Land, but we did manage to create some mayhem on the train:

Image

One highlight of the trip was that we finally got Mouseoholic to ride Splash! She’s been trying to work up her courage for several years, and finally agreed to do it this night! It was cold as h**l, but we went for it anyway. At the beginning of the ride, everyone was pretty confident it would be okay, but Mouseoholic was still a little nervous. You can sorta tell by her face here, although I accidentally cut off part of it:

Image

Here’s a few of my favorite shots from the ride scenes:

Image
Image
Image

Afterwards, B-babe was cool as a cucumber….

Image

…but the other two were a little more, shall we say, “pumped up”:

Image

I didn’t get a shot of B-dude after the ride. I think I remember that he had gotten soaked and was busy drying off in the gift shop  .

Naturally, Dole Whips should have been part of the festivities. But it was just too darned cold, so we decided to grab some hot chocolates and coffees instead. But since we were getting them at Aloha Isle, B-babe couldn’t restrain herself from busting out with a few DW Dance moves unconsciously… sort of a “Pavlov’s Dogs” response to seeing the DW machines  :

Image

We decided to explore the SFR treehouse while we sipped our hot beverages:

Image

We got a pretty good spot to watch the light show “Magic, memories, and you” (or whatever…). Here’s just a few of those shots:

Image
Image
Image

And of course, we capped it off with Wishes. Here’s just a few of those shots:

Image
Image
Image

One of the last things we did before leaving was to see the refurbished Tiki Room show. We all liked how it was restored to the original storyline and characters after the fire, instead of the “Under New Management” version:

Image
Image

Well, that’s all I can remember about our trip based on the pictures. I have a few other scattered fuzzy memories of different things, but not enough to put into any kind of reasonable narrative. I’m really hoping that when the Photopass CD comes I’ll have more to go on, and I’m also hoping some of the others who haven’t done so will post their versions here soon as well. :D

Great pics M-Dude! I really miss that day we all met up! Too cold for DOle Whips?/ NEVER!!!! I remember having a kaki gori one night when it was in the 40s!!! and the next day a Dole Whip in the 40s as well! I figure, you only live once, and how often can I get my hands on it?

Heck, 40 degree weather is practically shorts-wearing weather for me here in Michigan ;) Never too cold for a treat! :D

1) We are truly kindred spirits. I like Captain EO even though it seems like everyone else hates it. My wife also despises CoP, while it's a must do for me every trip.
2) That picture with your wife and the German sized beer is awesome (right now I'm on a strict diet and no alcohol of any kind is allowed). I now know where we will go for our next meet-up.
3) I'm so glad you allowed your son to do all 4 parks in one day. I can't wait for the outcome. I know that it probably meant a lot to him.

Amy - That's it. Next trip we hang out at EPCOT with a beer or two. Just as special as 3am in the MK.
1) Yes we are---everytime you post something, I realize how much we are alike! Separated at birth? Who knows!?
2) First beer is on me!
3) Coming right up....
Back to our TR :D

Day 6

The Plan: US: DAK with my brother in the AM then ??? My Son: 4 parks in one day. ADR at POR-Boatwrights 6:15 (remember this was supposed to be an ‘off day’)

Actual:
My son got up before us because there was morning EMH at DAK that day and he wanted to get a jump on his adventure. I think he was out the door around 7! We slept in and generally dilly dallied until we finally made the trek to DAK. We don’t care for DAK and it shows…We didn’t even have it on the schedule until my Bro announced they were going there. It was good to see them there and we did a few things like ITTBAB and KS before they wanted to go to RPW and we decided it was time to roll. They decided that they would like to meet us for a beer at Epcot that night and check out Illuminations, could we make it? Could we make it??!!! Of course!!! :) They arranged for a sitter (M-I-L) for their two small children and we said, “See ya later!”
Oh, yeah—we received the first text photo of our son on front of the Tree of Life at around 8.

Park one-Check! He told us later that he saw ITTBAB and Dinosaur!.
He had a CM take this one :)
Image

I was telling my wife how awesome the Wilderness Lodge was, so we decided to go there—we took a bus there from DAK and checked it out. We milled around for a few and shopped a little bit then went to wait for a bus to POR. But then something else happened…we decided to go to the Beach Club and walk to the International Gate at Epcot—just because…
We received text #2 from my Son—he was at Club Cool in Epcot.

Two Parks: Check!
Image

He had ridden Test Track and was headed out when Club Cool caught his eye. Next stop DHS—he was going to eat lunch there.

Oh a little more background info…My wife announced before this trip that this would be, “The LAST Disney Trip.” She enjoys going, but she wants to do other things. Things that we haven’t done before…So, I had that nagging thought in the back of my head and maybe part of me agreed with her. But part of me knew that I would weasel a trip back here either with or without her. ;)
So as we disembarked at the Beach Club, we took that left toward Epcot she said…”Oh man, this is the heat—I never knew how close this was. This is where we need to stay next time.” Gotcha!! She always lays down the law and then she says that she knows how much I like going there, so she agrees and has a great time. It’s like a circle—but I always think that one day it will end for real. So far so good!
We did our usual and it never seems to get old. We ate a brat and a pretzel at Germany (OK ya got me---and a beer). We watched the China film that had eluded us all week because of timing. I love it, but my wife had never seen it. We walked into that preview area and they just opened the doors, so we walked right in.
Outside Italy:
Image
At some point we received our 3rd text, our son was at DHS and he was eating lunch at the Commissary. He was going to ride ST and TGMR.

Park three—Check!
Image

We figured it was time to head back for siesta so we rolled out, but not before I talked the Wife into one more SSE trip to the future.
At POR, we went and laid out at the pool… all the while I had an eye on the sky---it looked like rain all around us, but in the Happiest Place on Earth, it was bright, sunny and HOT. My wife fell asleep in the sun—always a good idea (lol) and I took a swim.

We decided to go to DTD and pick up some items for a co-workers daughter at the left-handed store/kiosk. As soon as we got on the bus—the bottom fell out. Man did it rain. We ducked between the raindrops through all the stores and as soon as we got our stuff, we decided to head back to POR…on the boat!---what possessed us to do that I have no idea. Maybe because the rain had lightened up, but it was cold and crappy on the boat and we had to dry the seat off. I remember asking the guy if they were running in the rain and he said they only stop if there’s lightning!
Cold, wet and tired we got back to the room and relaxed. The rain had quit, but it looked like it could start back at any time.
We were in the room when our son walked in. Surprised to see him already I asked him if he had abandoned his quest for immortality (around our house, anyway). He looked at me quizzically and said, “No, Dad, I am taking a mid-day break like we always do…” That’s my boy! He hung around for a little bit and left for park #4.
We had an ADR right here at the resort, but decided to cancel it and just eat at the food court. It actually worked out better for the DDP because we ate two ‘sit-down’ meals on Day 3 anyway.
Earlier we decided it would be quicker all around if my brother and his wife picked us up at POR and we drove over to Epcot…we thought that getting out of there via his car might be a little quicker for him than taking the bus back to POR (fighting that crush to the bus) and then him leaving from there. So my wife and I waited for him out on the road in front of the sign when I took this:
Image
While we were waiting, we received text #4 that my son was at MK and he was about to check into his ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern.

Park #4-Check!!
Image

He called me after a while and said he was having trouble understanding the server—I took that to mean he didn’t remember how to square up, but we sorted it out and all was well…or so we thought.
My bro and our wives rolled into Epcot around 7:15—we made a beeline for a beer in Canada---dee-lish! We did our usual stroll around the WS enjoying all the countries and showing my Bro around some other deeper areas of them. He is not as big a WDW fan as me, so a lot of this was all new.
Me and my Sweety:
Image
We settled in to the area around Canada for Illuminations (mainly because that’s where we were when they started) and gradually moved towards England because we were downwind of the fireworks. They enjoyed them so much that they wanted to bring the kids back to see them the next night. We had planned on finishing our trip out at Epcot anyway, this worked out for us.
He drove us to POR (we got out of there in no time) and we told them that we would see them at Epcot the next day. We got there and my son had just walked in…Another great, magical day at WDW!
My son had now done something that none of us have done...good for him (his brother is jealous!)

I have to ask ~ what is RPW at AK?
Sounds like a pretty packed day for a relaxing day  Nice that you got to spend some time with your brother and his wife!
Congrats to #2 son. That is very cool that he managed his goal (and made big brother a bit jealous in the process. That will teach him to stay home) How fun that he decided to take a little pool time in the mid-afternoon too.
Ummm, are you gonna leave us hanging about what happened with your son at the Liberty Tree Tavern????
Love the photo of you guys on the bridge. Shame on you for making your wife hold your beer ~ tsk, tsk, tsk ;)

Is the brother who is now jealous of son #2's accomplishment the same offspring who is "too old" for Disney?

What a cool day... but I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop with respect to Liberty Tree Tavern. I get the feeling that something didn't quite go right with that.

RPW is Rafiki's Planet Watch... That's what I call that area in the back when you go on that sideways train. I guess technically that whole area is RPW, I just call it that. Can you tell we are not huge DAK fans? :D

Yes I am going to leave you hanging...I need someway to get you to read the rest of this TR! ;)

I don't know why he wasn't smiling in those two, maybe because he had to take them himself? I don't know--I will ask him :)

The same!!! He has already told us he is coming next time. His exact words were, "well I didn't know you were going to Epcot so much.". Duh! Teenagers!!!!!
