I don't have kids, but I'm sure you'll get some great ideas. Have you also checked out the family board at www.disboards.com, or the tips section of www.allearsnet.com?

BTW - I'm in the philly burbs, too! Which county? (And welcome to subsonic)

I have an aunt who swears by those small DVD players. I'm pretty sure you can rent them and then just pop in your kids favorite Disney movie and you're set for the flight!
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

Mrs. Evans - I started flying to Disney when my nephew was three. My sister-in-law would always take some brand new little toys that she gave him on the plane. We also took small golden books to read to him. Best advise is to bring a few different things that will help keep them occupied. If you can fly JetBlue, they have the individual TV's with plenty of channels for the kids. Trust me you will not hear a peep out of them, if they have their own individual TV to watch! :D

I grew up in DelCo - Newtown Square - and now live in southern Chester County near Longwood Gardens.

The flight from PHL usually takes less than 2 hours, if you can take off on time (but that is another story). I don't have kids myself, but I have seen parents with kids and I have seen some of what they do. One good idea is to bring a juice box or something like that, unfortunately the new liquid laws forbid you bringing them through the security check points BUT you can probably find something in the terminal that is similar (just at $15.00 each lol). The juice is for the takeoff and landing, so they can pop there ears, otherwise your going to have some really cranky kiddies. another thing is make sure they go to the bathroom before they get on the plane, you don't want them having to go to the bathroom when the fasten seat belts sign is on.

There are probably a few more in there somewhere but I can't remember them right now. Incidentally what airline are you using?

Thanks for all of the tips mt friends! We are flying South West, Kids are still in diapers so that will make is a bit easier ( unless there is a #2 in mid flight) I apologize for the smell to all who will be on our flight. I am guessing there will be many families with kids on the plane too, and misery loves complany. We have been "practicing" being on an airplane at home and using our best manners. We have also been getting small Presents to open up during the flight to keep them occupied. Only 35 more days! WOO HOO! I havent had a vacation in 3 years. We are so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pick up the book Walt Disney World with Kids by Kim Wright Wiley. It will give you a lot of tips for the whole trip. See if your library has it before buying it. The portable DVD is a great tip. I used my laptop to play a movie for the kids on the last trip we made by plane. The laptop can also be used to load all the pics taken and show them to the kids on the way home. They like seeing themselves especially with their favorite characters.

Do your kids tend to be the "quiet types"? (I was the silent and sitting still type compared to my brother who was rambunctus (sp?).)

Only reason I mention it is because I read a news article a few weeks ago about a flight attendant totally going off on a parent because their child was a little bit noisy and hyper on a flight. (http://www.clickondetroit.com/family/13 ... etail.html) The flight attendant went over the line by suggesting to the Mom that she might give her kid Childrens Benadryl  , so this is kinda what you're up against flying with kids?

We've flown with our kids since they were babies - it's a rite of passage moreso for parents than the kids! I'm sure things will go easy - plan enough time, make sure your kids are rested, bring "comfort" items for them in terms of toys, music, snacks (and more snacks) and honeslty if you experience a meltdown just ignore the rolling eyes of other passengers - you'll feel like the spotlight is on you, but just handle the situation as best you can.

Be prepared and I'm sure it will be fine! :D

My 3 year old son is pretty good with sitting for periods. I can usually distract him with just about anything and he is aware of what we are doing...going on an airplane, Disney World. He calls it "Micky's House". My almost 2 yr old daughter is very fidgety. I think she will be the one making people roll their eyes.
