Taking the Kids

Post by Mrs. Evans » May Tue 15, 2007 2:04 pm

Hi evryone, My inlaws just bought us a trip to Disney! I can't believe it! We are so excited. We have an 18 month old daughter and a son who is 2 1/2. Im a little nervous about taking the little ones, but I cannot wait to see their faces when they get there. Anyone have any good tips for bringing toddlers? I have been reading as much as I can about surviving the World with kids. We are going September 21st.

They will probably love the Magic Kingdom (It is targeted for a younger crowd), and the Animal Kingdom because of the animals of course. They might be scared at first of the "life" size characters. Ive seen young children who are not afraid of them and others who wont go near them, so hopefully yours will not be scared. MGM is nice because they have a lot of shows and rides that are bases off of the Disney characters. Epcot, might be a little "over the head" of your children, but there are still many things to enjoy seeing there too.

Ok, csquare77 has a few good ideas, but to build off them:

in the Magic Kingdom, the kids should like that one. Alot of things for the little ones to see, as well as the adults. It's Walt's Dream of bringing kids and their parents together, and building attractions that both could enjoy.

Epcot, I'd have to disagree with csquare77 a bit, in that I don;t think it will be too over the kids' heads. They probably won;t be able to do some of the rides like Test Track or Mission: Space, but they should enjoy the Living Seas with Nemo and the Imagination pavillion. In the World Showcase, they can do the KidCot Fun Stops in each country (I even saw the KidCot stops in some of the FutureWorld pavillions too now).

In MGM, the kids will probably really like the Playhouse Disney Live on Stage, The Voyage of the Little Mermaid, as well as the character meets along Mickey Avenue.

Animal Kingdom is great for kids cause of all the animals. The Nemo show there is good for them, and the adults.

Remember that September in Florida is quite warm and can be kinda wet. The average high temperature is about 90 degrees and average rainfall is around 6". so, be sure to pack ponchos, umbrellas, or other raingear for everyone, as well as sunscreen, and plenty of drinks.

"Walt Disney World with Kids" by Kim Wright Wiley. This is the best guide I have found for families with kids. Some great practicle tips that you might not think of on your own.

Hey ...Jacca5660 DW here!!

Jac never traveled with a little one to WDW but I have been taking my DS to WDW,twice a year, since he was 7 mths old. He's 13 now. There are fun and interesting things in all the parks for Toddlers! Jac asked me to give y'all some advice.

The first thing to realize is you must take WDW at a slower pace while traveling with small ones. That will make for a much more relaxing and fun time for EVERYONE involved.

I also recommend getting Fast Passes whenever possible to avoid time standing in lines. Many times standing in long lines are melting points for little ones. You might want to bring some bottles of bubbles or toys to occupy the tots and pass some time while standing in line.

EPCOT has always been our favorite park even before they added Nemo into the mix!

Spaceship Earth might bore them but it is a nice place to cool off! Test Track and Mission Space they wouldn't be able to ride but the rest of Future World has lots of great things for toddlers!

Turtle Talk with Crush is a must see! I'm sure the kids will like seeing all the fish and their Nemo friends in the Living Seas.

A great place to relax, cool off and eat is in the Land Pavilion. It has the Circle of Life movie featuring Pumba and Timon. We always liked the Living with the Land boat ride.

Journey Into Imagination Dancing Fountains have always been a big hit with kids. The ride is okay featuring the cutie purple dragon Figment. Image Works has all sorts of fun interactive things for all ages to enjoy.

Ice Station Cool sponsored by Coke is a fun place to do a bit of FREE taste testing.

INNOVENTIONS East and INNOVENTIONS West both have all sorts of interactive things to do.One of our favorites is in the East side.... FANTASTIC PLASTICS WORKS.You can see how plastics are made but the best part is you can make your very own Robot out of different color parts...and take him home...FOR FREE!!!

Make sure to walk through the Plaza outside of Innoventions at night. The sidewalks light up.Some like twinkling stars others with really cool patterns.Kids love to hop around on these.

DS is a dinosaur lover so Universe of Energy has always been a must see for us. Some parts of the movie are a bit loud.

You might want to carry a swimsuit in your backpack as there are 2 fountains that are always fun places for the kids to play in. One is near Mission Space and Test Track. The other is by the center walkway that connects Future World and World Showcase.

In case you have forgotten any supplies like diapers, formula etc. the Odyssey Center is the place to find it! If you are nursing it's a nice quiet place with rocking chairs to rest awhile.

On to World Showcase!

Someone already told you about the Kidcot Stations. The stations are marked on the park map so you can easily find them. The mask are nice FREE souvenirs...we have several over the years.

In Mexico El Rio del Tiempo boat ride is fun for the kids.Sort of a It's Small World,Mexican style. There's hardly ever a line for this ride.

Norway has Maelstrom a boat ride.Be warned that this ride is darker then Rio del Tiempo and there are some big, polar bears growling. There is a wonderful play ground area in Norway that's a Viking ship.

China doesn't really have anything for kids but there are some fun "walking puppets" of flamingos, dragons and other critters for sale. We love just playing with these!

The area between China and Germany is called the Outpost. There is a collection of drums that are a real hit with kids to play and make there own music!

Germany has a delightful miniature train and town area. It's fun to watch the little choo choos chug!

Italy and the American Adventure don't really have anything for little ones except the Kidcot Stop. Sometimes Pinocchio
is in Italy and Mickey and friends at the American Adventure.

Japan has Koi ponds with huge goldfish swimming in them. There is also a candy maker in Japan that makes beautiful animal shaped candies out of blobs of taffy like candy. She is amazing to watch!

In Morocco you might find Aladdin, Jasmine and the Genie doing Meet & Greets.

France is another pavilion that's only interest for tots is the Kidcot station.

Great Britain has a small maze in the garden where the British Invasion croons Beatles songs. People of all ages love to dance to them.

Canada doesn't have anything for little ones although it is fun to try on some of the hats there!

So remember take it easy and everyone should have a really terrific time in Epcot!!!
