Sorted out my outfits for packing over the weekend. Weather is predicted to be in the upper 80s for my entire trip. So bathing suit is getting packed and will see more wear than not. I think there will definitely be afternoons in the pool at Saratoga Springs. Or a little jaunt over to the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon.

Only 4 days ~ have fun! We have gone in November and December so many times now that I don't even really think about packing a suit anymore. I think I've probably only gone swimming at the resort once or twice in all the years we've gone. Hopefully some day I will live closer and can spend more time in the parks, and then take the time to enjoy the pool life as well

I'm usually a January Disney patron; so, the bathing suit was rarely ever packed. But since I was just there in January & I've got the waterpark addition, I'm planning on a least a half day at Typhoon Lagoon, maybe more with the predicted highs, plus it's "research." I grew up in the southeast and survived the brutal heat, but I've been back home in California for 13 years now and I've grown soft I tell ya. Soft.

I was whinging to myself all weekend at the low 90s outside. Sure the humidity was low so it was that dry heat Southerners mock us for, but they need to understand that we don't have air conditioning units. It was 84 in my house yesterday, with the curtains drawn (and doubled with towels) and fans going in almost every room. I thought about burning a tank of gas driving up and down our little stretch of coast cause my car has A/C (I purchased it whilst living in Houston, Texas) but gas is pricey...so instead I wrapped my neck in frozen towels and experimented with making frozen drinks.

The peach-mango juice blended with ice cubes, frozen strawberries, two fingers of gin, and a splash of pellegrino was the best of my attempts (mostly cause "why is all the rum gone?!"). It needs a name...

Really, you don't have an a/c? I'd be getting at least a window unit for that kind of heat. My brother lives in Tracy, not sure if that is near you or not, and they have dual units, one for upstairs and one for down. He doesn't like to run them though because it costs a small fortune. We about roasted when we visited one year. And I still feel for my poor nephew whose bedroom is upstairs and he is home all day because he works late afternoon/evenings. Hope you manage to stay cool and the temperatures drop for you soon!

Had to look up Tracy, CA. That's about 230 miles NE of me. Los Osos is over on the coast about midway between LA and SF.

Until super recently, we've not needed air conditioning...from 2003-this year, I've used the A/C in my car 3-5 days of each year. This year has been unseasonably hot. Starting back in January when we had 5 days over 80 degrees. Yep, January. For comparison, July barely hit 70 for the high (thank you marine layer--aka fog). In Sept thus far, we've had 4 days over 85 with 4 more predicted. And October is usually our warmest month. So there's more to come.

Micro-climates are strange though. Cause that's all at my house. My office which is 11.8 miles inland (and blessedly air conditioned) in San Luis Obispo has had only 7 days of temps less than 80 for all of Sept. And had 7 days in a row of 90+. I'd say easily 95% of the homes in the city do not have AC. August is usually the hottest month in SLO. Though Sept of 2015 is challenging that...

I am definitely lucky to live here. I grew up in Charleston, SC and remember those horrid humid summers of 105 degrees and 99% humidity...2 weeks of heat is still a vast improvement.

Ah yes, the micro-climates ~ forgot about those. Yeah, heat is still hot, but it's not as miserable when there is low humidity. I got to compare the 100+ degree heat in Africa to the 100+ heat in Australia when I traveled both places in 2003. No contest which was worse ~ the humid air of (parts of) Australia made you sweat in seconds! There were dry heat places too, but the humid ones were plenty.
Still poking about on travel dates. Every time I looked last night it seemed the price of the value resorts creeped upward so I stopped looking And then Figment told me she has Dr. appointments sprinkled throughout December which makes planning just a bit more tricky. Hoping if I can still find a good deal we can shift some of those appointments. I told her I might have to go without her and she told me in no uncertain terms she was going with!
