I voted as an adult, even though my fondest memories are from my childhood. I was really torn between the two answers, because it's great at either rate. BUT the reason I put as an adult is because I got to take my son for his first and only times there and just seeing DL from his excitement and what he liked as a kid compared to what I did as a kid. It was fun as he got older and we talked about things like the mule rides which very few people can remember. I honestly can't remember now if he got to experience the people mover and the sky ride?? When did those go away, what year? Man o Man my memory is for cra* these days!! Anyway, I chose adult because of being able to take my child for the first time (yikes, that was over 20 yrs ago!!) Time sure flys by.

Definetly as a child, that way when you are older you have more memories which will draw you back with your own child(ren) to experience it all again through their eyes.
I still love going, and really enjoy watching the random people around me experience the park. Seeing a full starspeeder tour simultaneously look under their seats after the CM told them to, was too cool on my last trip. I always forget how there are people out there that don't have ride speils memorized, and get scared when the bugs crawl under their butts
The biggest reason is the obvliviousness of childhood. To not see the missing details, peeling paint, and such is priceless. The pure joy of a full day (without impossible crowds) may not be remembered in detail, but the fondness never leaves.

I think you should go for the 1st time as a kid......... to get the magic stuck in you for life, but there is MORE to do as an adult, and you tend to enjoy it more. (I'm 33, and have been 3 times in the past 4 years) My parents go every year, sometimes TWICE a year! I'm so JEALOUS!
"Hey, Look at that guy in the Goofy Mask!" "That's not a mask!" "Oh... Sorry Lady!"
It is WAY more fun to go as an adult (if you have kids). Seeing them experience the magic is like doubling your memories of the park from your own childhood and then seeing them mirrored in your kids' faces and reactions. They ask so many questions and you get to answer them based on your own magical memories and knowledge. I often tell them, "Wow, I was too scared to ride that one when I was 5! You are amazing!". Or, "That wasn't even here when I was 5!".
Having said all that, the qualifier is that you (the adult) had visited as a child. I know my kids' will feel the same way because each time they go, I hear them telling each other the same things and remebering their own first times.

I definatly agree that there's more to do as an adult and I love going now that I'm grown and can do what I want, when i want at the parks. That being said I voted that it's more fun as a kid. I believe this is for a mix of the reasons previously stated. I know there are people that love doing the planning for the trip, and maybe it'll change when I have kids. But right now I love running by the seat of my pants while I'm on vacation. When I go to Disney, nothing really gets planned besides where to stay before I get there. Again that might change when I start staying at the resorts, I don't know. I also believe there are things both good and bad that you don't notice as a child because you're caught up in the magic of WDW. You don't notice the paint peeling, or the cutting of corners to save on costs. But then again, you don't have the patients to notice the good things like the wonderful attitudes of everyone working in the park trying to make your trip that much better. When it comes down to it, I don't think there's a better time to go. I just think that you should go and realize the magic of Disney.
Please keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle until the ride comes to a full and complete stop. Thank you, and enjoy the rest of your day here at Walt Disney World.

Thank you. With all that i said, I was afraid I was rambling a bit. I am very much looking forward to the day when I get to take my kids for the first of many trips to Disney. My dad still talks about the first times my parents took me and my brother to Disney.realcal wrote:Very well stated jrcohen! That is a great way to approach your visits. And with that attitude, you will absolutely LOVE taking your kids (future) to "realize the magic" of Disney.

I just got back from Disneyland, a can't remember how many times I've gone in my life, but it was the first time without my parents. I'm 27 and went with 3 guys, 37, 38 and 48. We all had a BLAST. We didn't have to worry about kids with us or anything, just us, we got to do what we wanted. I think I had more fun this time then I have had in the past.
I remember things from when I was a kid that are different now, some good, most bad, but still all Disney.
Personally, I think it is better to go as an adult, or a big kid (that's what I am) because you can remember more about it.

I first went to WDW at 28 (dd was 3 and ds was 18mos). I loved it - hooked immediately. Although the kids have little memory of that trip, they can identify with the pictures. We have been a few times since (every 2 years or so).
I suppose it would have been cool to come back as an adult after going as a kid, but I'll never forget the feeling of being in the parks at first opening for the first time, nor the look on the kids faces for all of their first Disney experiences.
I am trying to convince dw to go without kids sometime, as I expect a very different experience 'sans enfants'.

I think going as a child enhances your enjoyment of the whole experience as an adult. I love doing all of the things I did as a kid when visiting WDW. I think I would still enjoy the parks as an adult having never visited as a child but the fact that I do have those memories makes it that much better now. I think the best time for a kid to go is when they are old enough to 1. walk, 2. talk and 3. remember. Kids minds are like sponges when they are young so they take most everything in. I know I did and that's why when I visit WDW today and look at POTC it takes me back to my childhood and the comfort that while some things change, some things stay the same and that is a wonderful thought. The smells, the sounds, all of it contributes to the experience and to making memories whether your a child or an adult. For me, they are one in the same. I'm a big kid and I dont' ever want to grow up if it means I can't enjoy Disney!
