It is your second paragraph that sums up why we don't take the dining plan. To break even each person must consume $50 worth of food each day and you have to strictly adhere to it. For a family of four for eight nights free dining is $200 discount (if used to the max) a day for a total of $1600. I honestly think the percentage off the room is a better deal as we take two rooms.mdk010 wrote:My family always would try to get waters instead of the desserts. It really helped on hot days! Also, we found that the counter-service credits didn't go as quickly as we thought we ended up with some extra.
A family friend was curious about the dining plan, and if it really is a deal. They got the dining plan on their last visit and used it effectively for sit-down meals, snacks and counter-service. They used every credit. When they were ordering, they tried to get the most expensive item in order to maximize their savings. When they did this it turned outthat you actually are saving money on meals. My friend did the calculation and kept a tally. He said to make the Disney Dining Plan a real value, you have to use all the credits and get the more expensive items. Otherwise, it may be more expensive to use the dining plan than to charge food and snacks to the room.

Re: Free Dining
That is kind of what we thought. It was free with our package and I'm sure we wouldn't have eaten nearly the amount of food if we had been buying our own meals ~ seriously, who eats three meals a day with an entree, side and dessert every day?! I'll miss it this next time we go, mainly because my Mom and I usually share a meal, and she has more dietary restrictions so she usually gets to choose the food...paul1232 wrote:We did the dining plan once, it was fun to truly be on vacation and enjoy eating. we thought it was a good add on.
