HK Disney subway and misc. pics
Hey everyone! I just got back from Hong Kong. While I was there, I took the Disney subway line to the outside of HK Disneyland Resort. There were also ads for HK Disneyland almost everywhere you went. I took some pictures and will upload them somehow soon. I'm too tired right now. Jet lag sucks

These two ads are taking up a lot of the ad space in the hong kong subways. They're are probably a few of these ads in each station.
Sorry about the blurry picture. But the day I got to hong kong was the day that the Disneyland Resort subway line opened up, allowing visitors to ride to and get the first glimpses of the entrance to the park. I was like
This is a huge ad that is right at the exit/entrance to the subway. It was the first thing I saw walking out onto the street. This area is a huge shopping district(not that you can tell).
This is a little flat model of how the Disney train looks like. There is a countdown to opening day(sept 12, 2005) on it as well. The day I was there, it was at 41 days. This ad is at the stop before you go to the stop to get onto the Disneyland train. Make sense? Lots of families and young adults were among the crowds in that station. Um...actual train is bigger and much much longer.
And this is actually how the train looks like from the outside. I couldn't get a better picture because we were in a rush. There aren't as many cars as the regular subway, but it can fit loads of people at one time. You can't tell, but there's magic pixie dust lining the bottom of the train.
There are displays in cases on the sides of the train walls like this Mickey one. I saw Snow White, Minnie, and Jiminy Cricket from where I was.
For some reason what I enjoyed most were the Mickey handle bars. I should have taken pictures of the nice deep blue plushy and very comfortable seats, but I didn't But sitting in that train is really nice. Made me feel special

Here's the actual entrance to the park. And then some. Enjoy!
Here is the sign welcoming visitors after stepping off of the Disneyland train. We were so excited to see it. Right on the other side is a thank you sign for those leaving. How sad.
After walking a bit, you come to a water fountain with characters on it. Mickey is on a surfboard which gets shot up and down from time to time. Streams of water also make for a nice display as Disney music plays around you. Goofy, Minnie and Donald are around him as well. Unfortunately, Donald didn't fit in the picture.
Workers are putting the finishing touches at tram shelters. At least I think that's what they are.
Sorry for the dark and far image. We got there late afternoon. This is of course the Main Street station. Main Street buildings could be seen a bit from behind the tall hedges, but not a whole lot.
Ticket prices. The conversion would be about $1=7.5 HK. You can do the math- I'm too tired. The bottom says, "Children under the age of 3 are admitted free." and "*including weekends, Hong Kong public holidays, summer school holidays(ie July and August) and the Golden Week holidays(May and October)." The ticket booths look like the ones at DLR.
Two cast members giving smiles and peace signs. They were selling expensive bottled water.
If I knew beforehand that I wanted to share these images with ya'll- I would've taken more and better shots. Sorry about the low quality and lack of reporting. It wasn't until I left HK that I decided to post these images. Disney is shoving HK Disney into peoples faces It's like BAM in yo' fface! Another thing I noticed, is that people love love love to wear Disney character apparel- it's everywhere!
Oh, and I almost forgot. Do you remember Beijing Disney? I don't either. As we were sitting in the tour bus, I noticed that the building looked "disney-ish." Then the tour guide mentions something about a Disney park in Beijing that fell through. We got out our cameras in a hurry and the result is the first image. Looks like the beginnings of a castle. The second image was snapped on the way back(from the Great Wall). I'm not sure what that's supposed to be. Maybe the tour guide lied and it's not even related to Disney. If it is in fact the remains of an abandoned Disney park, how sad that is! It's just sitting there

Those Beijing Disney pictures are interesting. After a couple of quick Google searches, there are a few other mentions of such a place, so maybe your tour guide was right. According to what I read, they started building the park, then ran out of money and stopped.
Can't find any other photos from around theplace though.
Your second photo looks too shiney and bright to have been there for a long time though
acp.

Very cool, thanks for the photos, esp. the subway ones! Looks like that is coming along really well, amazing it is so close to opening day and yet so little news of it gets over to North America... From all I've heard Disney is a huge hit over there - seems like they are tapping the right market, Japan loves it and seems like it is ready to take off in HK and China.
So does anyone have more dirt on the Beijing project, articles on other sites, etc.? I remember the idea surfacing but never heard it got that far. Very interesting and depressing

Np- glad to share my Disney enthusiasm with everyone here! Disney is a huge huge hit over there. They spent so much money on adverstising HK Disneyland. Everywhere you go, someone has a t-shirt or purse with a Disney character(usually Mickey) on it. It's a bit weird at first.
As for Beijing Disney, I have no idea. But yeah it is very sad.

Yeah - the new Tomorrowland is pretty slick. I think this one will make it. LP has loads of photos going up daily on the new park - that is the place to watch it seems.
So Sub - when are you going to rename this area to inc. HK?

So outside of LP are any other sites giving good coverage to HKDL? It looks neat from what LP has seen - hopefully it will be a hit and keep growing.
