Yesterday, a 5 year old was seriously injured at Disneyland Paris after falling from a boat near the exit of Pirates of the Caribbean and getting stuck between two boats.

According to reports from a DLP cast member on twitter, the boy stood up before the boat had reached the platform to exit and fell backwards. Disneyland Paris put out a series of tweets on the resort's official twitter feed:

We are deeply saddened by the accident that took place this afternoon in the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.

A five-year old boy was immediately rescued by our Emergency Services team that performed first aid.

We are accompanying the child’s family in order to offer any assistance necessary.

Safety is our utmost concern and we are working in close partnership with the authorities to understand what happened.

The attraction Pirates of the Caribbean is closed until further notice.

Today, they've posted a few updates on the boy's condition:

We have been informed that Iban’s health is improving. This information is a relief for us, even if we must remain cautious.

We are working closely with the authorities to understand what happened.

The attraction is closed for the investigation to be conducted carefully by an expert appointed by the authorities.

As you know, safety is our utmost concern. Our procedures are among the strictest in the industry.

We would like to thank the teams and the authorities for the quality of their work and the speed with which they reacted.

So sad to hear. Considering the many hazards when entering and exiting the rides and the throngs of people at the parks, it's surprising there aren't more serious injuries.

Hopefully he will be ok. I'm sure they will be looking into the loading and unloading procedures before they reopen.

how about looking to the family figure sitting next to him? i hope they don't begin blaming the procedures and cast members, when this maybe could have been avoided by just holding your childs'/siblings'/friends hand. especially a 5 5YO

I imagine they will consider that as well, especially since it is overseas. Here in the states they probably would put all the blame on the park. I have noticed some kids stand up early in the boat rides, but most of the time the person sitting next to them either grabs hold of them or the CMs get them to sit down quickly.

Pirates can turn into quite the bumper boat experience when reaching the unloading area. I can see the reaction being to add a "permanaced sentados por favor!" announcement, even though good sense and mindful parenting should have prevented something like this.

Pirates in DLP already has "Remain Seated" announcements in French and English as you approach the unload area if I remember rightly.

There is only so much that Disney can do for safety precautions....thats why they are called accidents. I am so happy to hear that the child is improving. Since none of us were there, and do not know exactly what took place, It is hard to have an accurate opinion about the incident. We have become a society of passing the buck and placing the blame on whoever or whatever instead of taking responsibility for our own actions. Example. (sueing McDonalds for spilling hot coffee on yourself). We all hope that this incident all turns out well for both parties.

Yet the also demand tort reform even though they have no idea how little they actually know about those lawsuits and how the notion of frivolous suits comes about from the companies being able to control the narrative while the victim is required by law to be silent.
