OLC put out a press release yesterday with some details of new entertainment for both parks in 2014 and 2015.

Firstly in Tokyo Disneyland from spring or summer 2014 (tentative dates) will be a new nighttime show called "Once Upon a Time". The description makes it sound like a similar idea to Disney Dreams in Paris (and the PR actually uses a photo of Dreams to illustrate it). It'll be a 15 minute projection show with pyrotechnics.

Meanwhile, in Tokyo DisneySea, Under the Sea will close in the Mermaid Lagoon Theatre in early April 2014 for a renovation and upgrade and will return with a new Little Mermaid themed show in spring 2015. There's not much information on the show itself other than that screens will be installed behind the audience seating area, and it'll be based around a musical concert held by King Triton.

Finally, a small note at the very end of the press release is the one that's interesting. The Legend of Mythica will hold its last show on 7 September, 2014 after eight years. No mention is made of a replacement show.

Here's the PR in PDF format: http://www.olc.co.jp/wpmu/wp-content/bl ... 0619_e.pdf

Personally, I think it looks good for the most part. It's a little odd that no mention is made of a replacement for Mythica, but I guess (hope!) they'll be making that announcement at a later date. Mythica is an awesome show. It'll be a shame to see it go.

It'll be interesting to see if Once Upon a Dream will replace the current fireworks arrangements or be in addition to it. I wouldn't be surprised if it replaces the current fireworks, since with Once Upon a Dream, both parks will have their own nighttime show (with Fantasmic! in DisneySea), so it could negate the need for a fireworks show. (Also, one thing I did note while I was there last month is that they cancel their fireworks show if there's even a hint of a slight breeze. Replacing it with Once Upon a Dream, it could result in less cancellations of the main nighttime show Disneyland (If Dreams in Paris is anything to go by, they'll be able to run the show without some effects (for instance, DLP can disable the fire effects, or the pyrotechnics and still run the show))).

It'll be interesting to see what they do with the new mermaid show. The current show is very good. I was amazed at just how many things were flying around the room at the same time (I counted seven people up on wires at one point in the show). Hopefully, the new show will improve on the existing one and be just as good (or better!).

Andy.

This year it is the 30th anniversary for Tokyo Disneyland. Probably one of the reasons why they are adding these new stage shows

Nah, the 30th is this year. For the 30th, they have a 30th-themed fireworks show, new DL parade and a short show on the water in DisneySea. The new shows they've announced all start after the 30th is over, particularly the new mermaid show, which isn't opening for another two years.

I meant that it was this year. With the anniversary, they would have announcements for future plans

I think it's more that it's time for the OLC shareholder meetings around about now. They usually announce things around the time of those meetings.
