DLP Big Thunder Mountain Accident
http://www.coaster-net.com/news/1386-di ... -accident/
Several people were injured when a rock truly did fall when the tunnel is "caving in". Thankfully it sounds like most of the injuries were minor and treated on site, though one man is in the hospital with a head injury. According to the article, the park will remain closed until further notice.

That's scary! Hopefully the man wasn't too seriously injured.

Yikes! That's crazy. Glad, for the most part, everyone wasn't seriously hurt. Hope the man in the hospital gets out soon and it's nothing serious.

I was surprised they would close the whole park and not just the ride. That seemed a bit extreme.
Re: DLP Big Thunder Mountain Accident
It does seem a bit extreme but we have to remember this is France and their laws may be more severe with things of this nature.mindflipper wrote:I was surprised they would close the whole park and not just the ride. That seemed a bit extreme.
I hope that the injured man recovers quickly and the safety team find out what caused this unfortunate incident and make sure it will not reoccur.

Guess they will now have to post the warning signs, "Danger! Beware of falling fake rocks!" Guess they're not made of styrofoam after all...Sleepy90 wrote:It does seem a bit extreme but we have to remember this is France and their laws may be more severe with things of this nature.mindflipper wrote:I was surprised they would close the whole park and not just the ride. I too was surprised that it said that it said the park was shut down, but came up with three possibilities:mindflipper wrote:I was surprised they would close the whole park and not just the ride. That seemed a bit extreme.
- Like Sleepy said, France simply may have different regulations.
- A tangent of the first thought - because the injuries occurred due to a ride malfunction, it may be handled more extremely than an injury due to someone trying to climb off the ride, falls, health problems, etc. They may want to investigate the park's maintenance system and determine whether or not factors such as lack of proper maintenance, ignoring a known problem, etc. were at fault.
- Something may have been lost in translation and only the ride is closed, not the whole park.

If I recall, when there was a death on Rock N' Rollercoaster they didn't shut the park down, so it could have been a translation issue.

Just found an article on MSN that says it was only the attraction shut down.

That makes more sense that only the attraction was shut down after the accident.Polynesian Princess wrote:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42751628/ns/travel-news/

Thanks for posting that, Poly. I really didn't make sense they would close the whole park!

Ah, so it was just a translation error. Yeah, that makes more sense.
