this is kind of like the Florida Project at the moment. All I could find is a chinese newspaper article that is supposedly breaking the story. However, looking on the Disney corporate website, there are absolutely no press releases on this right now. unless Disney officially announces it, I don't think this is real.

If Disney is having to layoff people in the US parks, I don't think that they'd spend the capital needed for a brand new park in another country. especially in this economy.

That sounds interesting. Another park to add to my list and try out.

Super cool, but I do agree with some of the other people who posted on themeparkinsider.com that there are better places that Disney could build a park.

There have been rumors that Disney is looking to build a park in Shanghai, but I can't imagine they would invest in a park so close to Hong Kong Disneyland this soon. I mean, what about South America? They are unrepresented and I can attest that there are plenty of people who travel from there to WDW.

WHY? Why won't they build in BRAZIL?!?!?! Give all those tour groups a reason to stay at home. (No offense...)

We join up with them and fall in

I have to agree with you on that. Everytime I go to WDW I always run into numerous of those large groups with the annoying flag leader.

However, you build a park in Brazil, you will loose A LOT of business in WDW. Each group is at least 25 people and I believe most stay on property at the All Stars and Pop.

I wouldn't mind the tour group at all but that "flag leader" person practically knocked us down a concrete stairway and trampled my family at AK. Simple answer? Fire the flag leader. I'd be happy to take a Brazilian family around, and we wouldn't be shoving people, plus, they'd enjoy the park more!

On the Shanghai Park... Not until the Disney Co. announces it will I be sure of it. It may be going to happen, but Classic Years over at Pop is supposed to happen too...

I don't get it... why two parks in China? I know it is big, but there are so many other countries that have large populations that have NO park... wierd.

Disney wouldn't lose that much money on the Brazilian groups. The reason there isn't a park in Brazil (which Walt himself loved) is because the groups themselves make a killing off the tours. The profit margin for a tour is around $500 a head. It is price gouging to the extreme. The groups lobby to prevent any such action, so they can continue to milk the poor saps out of their hard earned money. Disney has also not lost that much on European tourists, even though there is a park in their backyard. I can't speak for DLR, but I am sure they have just as many Japanese and Chinese tourists as ever too.

I know I am the one who brought up the South American idea, but another reason a park hasn't been built there is the instability of the governments. Brazil has really only had a democratically elected government for a couple decades, Argentina's economy is crap, Chile is too seismically active, the others are either unfriendly to the West or have a military coup every other week.

I have to agree with you, that it doesn't make sense. Shanghai and Hong Kong are roughly 750mi apart as the crow flies. For a point of reference, DLR and WDW are roughly 2000mi as the crow flies. There just isn't precedent for them to build so close together.
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Am I the only one that feels that Disney should stop building parks outside the U.S. Why don't they choose another location in the U.S?! I guess I just don't get it. Enough already. And why two in China?!

Maybe I am in the minority but I think there should be fewer Disney parks, not more. Of course I understand the realities of the business world but I would prefer to see more investment in the US parks.

If they keep building more and more, doesn't it take away from the "special" feeling you get when you visit WDW/DL?! I agree horizons1, invest more in the U.S. parks. After all, that's where this all started!

Well part of me agrees that more investment in the US parks would be great, but the other part of me feels like that is a bit greedy and US-centric. It doesn't seem fair to other countries that the parks be only in the US.
