I just found a page that shows pictures of Space Mountain Paris. It's a completely different ride almost entirely.

My dilemma, do I like the retro feel of the original Space Mountain, or would I prefer the newly updated look and feel of the Paris version? Do you think Orlando will ever revamp the original, and would you be for or against it?

I'm really torn, were I making the decision, I would keep it as it is. But for younger people, the look is very outdated, and they have no reason to appreciate the historical aspect of the design.

Space Mountain 2 is opening soon at DLP

almost everything in DLP is different from anything in any other Disney park. From what I understand, Space Mountian in Paris has always been like that. It more or less has the track from "Rock n rollercoaster" from WDW (where there's at least 2 corkscrews and a couple of loops. Also where it takes no time for the ride to get up to speed.

Now "Space Mountain 2" is just an updated version of the ride with new effects. It's not like a whole new attraction is being built along with Space Mountain, it's just a refurb with new effects under a updated name.

^ Yeah it looks as though it is pretty much what Disneyland is doing with no new tracks and maybe less updating of the effects.

I have tested the new Space montain mission 2, whith a new music, and new effect (i love the vortex )

I think the disneyland paris space mountain is awesome. because there is now a new adventure: space mountain mission 2!
I like to hear the music that is synchronised with the ride( i read it! )

does anyone have the music ore something like that..
i have the music from mission 1...

but i think 2 is more awesome!!!

I think rides with the lights on look more frightening than in the dark, haven’t been on mission 2 yet, but am going to go soon. Should be fun!

they all say that mission 2 is more extreme and nicer music than mission 1 was!
i have done the first one.
i think myself that is awesome!

hey, i'm real surprised reading the reactions on the differerent disneysites around the net. Most people seem to love mission 2 and say that its better than the original...

...however when I tried it a month ago it was a huge disappointment. The lights are pretty confusing and they don't seem to really fit the ridetracks, plus the new music is slow and forgettable (as opposed to the original more exciting theme).

Worst of all is that they got rid of the original jules verne theme, so the ride now has references to the old story (eg. the old school architecture and the cannon) but the new story is set is as a modern space story which has little or no back-story. Gererally the kind of problems you would expect when adding a new theme to an existing attraction... But very UN-disney-like!

let me know if anyone agrees...we can get a nice heated debate going

I hate to tell you this pal... but I don't even know the back-story to Space Mountain in Disneyland.

I think that is one of the few rides that don't have a good if nay sotyr too it. If they do please let me know.

I'm not a big Space Mountain fan, so I don't deal with it usually.

I'll try to give a recap of the story behind space mountain for those interested, especially for the U.S. readers who haven't been to DLP:

The whole DLP discoveryland was supposed to have been based on old Jules Verne, H.G. Wells type science-fiction (Especially Verne since he's french).
Space mountain (the original one...Mission 1?) in Paris was based on Verne's "From the Earth to the Moon", where a space ship is shot to the moon from a giant cannon. Inside the ride you came face to face with a large smiling moon (Inspired by the film 'A trip to the Moon' (1902) created by french special effects wizard George Melies), and a smiling Jules Verne riding and astroid.

The ride was supposed to have been a part of a much bigger concept called discovery mountain which you can read about here:

So basically they took a ride that had a great story, that fit with its surroundings and included great french tie-ins....

and turned it into a ride that has no story, doesn't fit with the overall concept of DLP's discoveyland and has nothing to do with France, or Europe, or Disney, or anything for that matter!

Now do you see why i'm a little disappointed?

Thats a very good point thomas, I really liked Mission 1 with
the whole idea, behind Jules Verne. Great when i first went on the
ride. Wheeeeeee!!!

I can't really comment on Mission 2 as i havant been yet, however
it seems that the history behind Mission 1 has being lost. Im hoping
it will still be an exciting ride to go one, but only time will tell.

I've not yet rode Mission 2, but i'm a fan of the "De la Terre a la lune"(From Earth to Moon).And there is a debate between the french fan:

The one(the youngest i think), are fan of the new version, because there is a "techno" musik, lightspot everywhere... It's fun as RNRC.

But they forgot(you guess that i'm the second type of fan), that the theme of Discoveryland is "the futur seen by the inventor/writer.. of the past".It's not a "tomorrowland".So, SpaceMountain "Mission 1"was included in this theme: future seen by Jules Verne(with a wonderful music)

And the "new" attraction has nothing to do with the theme: that just a fun ride(even if i have not rode it yet i think it would be fun), with a (poor?) storyline witch doesn't match the theme.
