I jumped the gun and voted for Phantom Manor, but then I continued to sit here and think about it for almost..well...for longer than I should have . There's things that are really cool in each of them, and things like the Graveyard and and the Underworld really can't be compared because they're meant for different audiences.
I thought about how I really love the dramatic soundtrack to Phantom Manor, but then again, I like the subtle music from the Haunted Mansion.
Of course there's also a big gap of technology advenacement between the contruction of the two.
At first it seems as if they're comparable, but they're really different enough to the point where they're almost completely different attractions.
It's not a replica like Small World, which can be compared easily. It's more like a cousin. . You can try to rate The Haunted Mansions, but you can't rate Phantom Manor, only explain the differences and similarities.

I've chosen Phantom Manor beacause I'm a DLRP fan, but I think likejs3901, these are very different things and so difficult to compare...

As js3901, they are different attractions - it is like comparing apples and oranges. The HM was no central story-line, it's a tour. The PM does have a background story-line to it.
The Vincent Price narration was dropped only after a few months for a very well done creepy French narration. One thing I love about the Phantom Manor is the incredible soundtrack score composed by John Debney (academy award nominated for his soundtrack, The Passion of the Christ). The short suite of music released on the DLP CD's over the year doesn't do it justice. Check out the soundofmagic.com for some of the tracks from this ride.

Re: What is better? Phantom Manor or Haunted Mansion?
The thing I love about phantom manor is it actually has a really good storyline. And its not just limited to the ride either, the whole of frontierland shares the storyline and it carries on throughout all the attractions in the land. It comes together perfectly too. The only thing I dislike about phantom manor is it hasnt been given all the updates that the floridian version has been given recently.

Some of those upgrades don't fit with the PM, like Constance, the Black Widow Bride ghost in the attic. I think they could modify the new effects with the mirror at the end to work with the Phantom instead of the HHG at WDW...

One thing that always bugs me about PM and HM, in the lift scene (gallery), when the lift stops and you look up to see flashing light, arent you supposed to be able to see something? I can never make out what it is

It's a person hanging from the rafters. In the HM, the Ghost Host informs you that there are no exits to the room, but "of course, there's always my way out." The joke being suicide was his way out. At the PM, the body hanging from rafters has been done so by the Phantom, meaning "my way out" is to have you dangling from a rope like his poor victim.jenko wrote:One thing that always bugs me about PM and HM, in the lift scene (gallery), when the lift stops and you look up to see flashing light, arent you supposed to be able to see something? In all my years of visiting Disneyworld I never figured this out until quite recently (within the past couple of years), and only by reading a bit more about the Haunted Mansion online. It's a very subtle effect.mindflipper wrote:It's a person hanging from the rafters.
