Listening on Linux?

Post by IMFearless » Dec Wed 03, 2014 11:13 am

It's been over a year since I've been able to listen in while at work because my current job has everyone using Ubuntu 12.04. I miss this radio station but I can't seem to get any of the streams to work in any media player I've found. Does anyone here know of an Ubuntu media player that will work with the streams?

Have you tried VLC? It's free and endlessly versatile, made for all platforms including Linux/Ubuntu specifically. I started using this media player on Windows years ago when WinAmp started taking a dive, and haven't changed since. I even made a custom set of shortcuts to all the streams here so I can switch easily, I'd be happy to share those if you'd like.

Those would be greatly appreciated. VLC was one of the many things I tried and I had zero luck with it the first time but I fully recognize that I could have gotten the links very wrong. Thanks!

Got it to work! http://request-high.subsonicradio.com:8000 on VLC. Not sure what went differently this time but now I'm listening for the first time in a long time and I couldn't be happier. Thanks!

Glad it worked out! In case you still wanted them, here's my presets: http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fi ... 3450188711

Download and unzip that file, and you should be able to open any of the playlist files inside with VLC. Some stations have been changed or decommissioned, and might not play. They're easy to change, though. Just open any of them in a text editor instead of VLC, and you'll see where the file points to a URL like the one you just posted. Copy one of the station links here on Subsonic and paste into your playlist file, removing everything but the actual location for the stream.
