I think they were trying to make the narration more informal and personable. I think it's a bit too "hip."

"Call it the first 'backup system'" is the most cringe-worthy line.
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

Yes but Judi could pretty much recite the phone book and I'd enjoy listening to it. I love her :)
