Nature Calls

Post by Pluto » May Wed 11, 2005 9:43 am

I'm relatively new to the site and can't get enough of it, but I have one question concerning the request order. My requests appear and I anxiously await my selections. While trying to sneak in a bathroom break before they begin, I will inevitably get stopped by someone on the way wanting to discuss their life story...or receive a phone call 20 seconds before my first song. Is there any way to pause the requests or cancel so that they can be sent at another time?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I can tell you that I found as a new user that timing is everything. And when you are so new and so few points, you can miss everything that you in the blink of an eye.

Not currently. When I read this, it seemed like a great idea to add that sort of functionallity. After thinking about it, I figure it might confuse people. Many people listen to this station and view the Now Playing page. Let's say you request something while I'm listening. I see that your requested track is something I want to hear. The track is about to come up and then it disappears because you took it back. Too confusing.

It could be displayed as "Paused" or something in the now playing list, but I don't want a bunch of tracks sitting in the queue because they are paused.
Wouldn't it be weird if local radio stations did that? (Though, you can't see what's coming up)

I wouldn't like a pause feature cause then I would have to wait longer until my requests came up. I can see the frustration factor on the rise with that one :D

I see your point. I'll just lock my door and turn off the phone for a while. A nice pause from the day's labor.
Thanks

Perhaps if it's not on the now playing page the ability to remove it and get your points back.

I work in a very busy office and have people in and out all day long and I answer the main phone lines, so I just do the best I can to hear what I request. I always look at the now playing to see when I think I might be up, based on the time of each song, it usually works out pretty well. But it's inevitable that someone will need my attention or the phone will distract me. Guess that's life interruptions, dang it, don't they know I am listening to SUBSCONIC at work!!

With WinAmp, you can always pause the stream to make sure you don't miss hearing your requests.

Now that's an option! I use realplayer, cause that is what I have loaded on here and it works well for me. I am lucky if I get to leave my desk for a "nature" break!

Ever think of a chamber-pot? :D

Anyway, I think the latest versions of realplayer also allow you to pause streaming audio. Try it sometime and see if that will work for you. That might be the simplest fix.

How funny you should mention that, cause when I had my knee surgery and have to come up 2 flights of stairs to the office and another 2 past ours if I wanted to use the restrooms, it was suggested to me  to use a jar UGHHHH

This won't work. When listening to a stream when you pause Winamp and then after a while play Winamp will play what you had in the buffer and then resync with the stream.

Real Player

Post by Pluto » May Wed 11, 2005 5:36 pm

I tried pausing RealPlayer and it appears to have worked. It shows a live connection duration time and runs a separate time counter at the bottom after pausing. After clicking on the "forward" button, it skips forward to the present "live" time, and they again match. I guess that it will continue to lag all day unless you fast forward? Or, Sub, what your saying is that it will skip ahead automatically at some point?

I'm speaking for Winamp. I don't know about Real Player. I hate that media format.

Not only that, but their player is super intrusive, installing other crap that runs on your system all the time. Yuck!
