Subsonic iPhone App is out! (formerly "in the works")

Post by BleuLlama » Jun Fri 25, 2010 9:07 am

Hi all! I'm new here as of about 3 days ago. REALLY glad there was a link to this place from BoingBoing. :D

Anyway, I love it so much, I decided to write a nice iPhone app for the site. It'll of course be available for free.

Here's screenshots of it so far:

http://umlautllama.com/rand/?q=iphone-S ... 002&b=2048

The web display tabs will likely be changing. The basics of it work, although the UI/usability are a bit cumbersome right now. I need to work that out a bit. (For what it's worth, It will run on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, back to iPhoneOS 3.0...)

If any of you would like to get beta test versions as I make them, please run the free app "Adhoc helper" from erica sadun (available for free in the app store) and send your device's "UDID" to yorgle at gmail dot com. :)

And no, I sadly will not be working on Android/etc ports. I have zero experience with those, and don't have a device to test it on, so that would be a task better suited to someone more experienced in those platforms.

The screenshots look awesome so far! I will have to figure out how to follow the steps to help with the beta testing ~ those instructions looked like Greek to me   Good luck with it! This will help me free up a safari page in my browser!

ok:

1. on your device, load up "App Store"
2. tap "search"
3. enter into the search field: "ad hoc helper"
4. tap the "[search]" button on the keyboard.
5. it should show "Ad Hoc Helper" by Erica Sadun, a free app
6. tap it, then tap the button to download it.
7. Start up that app once it finished downloading. It'll drop you right into mail.
8. enter my email address, yorgle at gmail dot com
9. send the message

When I get it, i'll add your device into the build, and i'll be sending out the app every so often, while working on it, when it's in a usable state. ;) Installation instructions will be in that email.

Here's a video showing the current version. I think it's almost done for a 1.0.

That is greatness! I am especially excited since I have been having problems with the program I have been using to listen to subsonic on my iphone. Will it play in the background or do you have to leave the program open?

Wow that looks really nice. Do you know how it will be with OS 4.0? Will it be able to stream in the background so you can do other things on the phone while listening?

http://umlautllama.com/rand/?q=iphone-S ... 004&b=2048 new screenshots from the release I just cut.

I don't have a 4.0 device to test on, but I believe I'm doing everything I need to, in order for it to work in the background on iOS 4.

Thanks for the step-by-step...will it come thru on the adhoc helper (UDID) app when you send it out? I'm glad I can help you out with the testing :D

Latest screenshots. It's hard to tell, but there are sparklies that appear and spin every so often. (Got the idea from the website header animation.)

I'm VERY close to the first release right now. I'm very happy with it, and very happy to be able to give back to all you awesome people. :D

I love the sleep timer option, thanks. I can't wait until it becomes available.

For what it's worth, I've cut a release and handed it off to Apple. If all goes well, it should be available in the app store next monday. :)

Keep us posted on how things go with Apple. They can be a bit temperamental at times. I am really excited for when this app comes out. It will be a must have for my iPhone!
