What's your Disney pet peeve? Express yourself, but be nice
Yes, it's the happiest place on earth, but we all have something that irritates us about it. Maybe if we spell it all out here, someone in authority will see our thoughts and do something about it. Offer up your peeve, but then try to offer a positive solution. I'll start:
I personally am very irritated by smoking. While I deeply respect the right of everyone to live as he pleases, I resent when an individual's personal choices infringe on my natural needs; i.e. the "choice" to smoke does not rank equally with my need to breathe.
That having been said, I deeply appreciate the way that the vast majority of my fellow Disney fanatics are very respectful of the rules vis-a-vis only smoking in designated areas. I know that's hard to stick to, and I congratulate those who abide by the rule. You have my sincere respect. However, there are some who seem to not care, and who seem to think that they can smoke wherever they please. My pet peeve is not actually directly against them, but rather against the Disney cast members who pretend not to notice, and who don't say anything, even when asked. My proposed solution: Disney should emphasize the importance of each cast member taking the responsibility to remind people of the rules when they are not abiding by them, especially when asked to do so by a guest.

My pet peeve is that anyone - and I mean anyone - can rent a wheelchair or a scooter. When I was at Disneyland once, the disabled people could not ride POTC because the entire space available for wheelchairs/scooters were completely filled. It turned out a group of 15 or more HS teenagers - all PERFECTLY HEALTHY - had rented the scooters to drive around the park. And every where they were going they took up all the space for wheelchairs and scooters, which meant any real disabled people couldn't even wait because they was no space for them to wait. The wheelchairs and scooters are meant to be for people who are temporarily or permenantly disabled. I'm not disabled, but I know some, and nothing seems more tasteless, heartless and hypocritical than perfectly able-body people abusing the true reason for the scooters being in the park.

This is going to become a real feast! I think there's an old post some where that covers this.

My main pet peeve when I am in WDW is poor maintenance. I know that it is tough and costly to keep everything perfect, but poor maintenance really irritates me. I know I go to WDW to escape my real life and to be in this "perfect place". It really gets tough keeping the mind-set of being in this perfect fantasyland when there are real life issues like severely chipped and water damaged walls, floors that are in a dire need of a waxing and worst of all a blown bulb. I just don't understand how Disney has gone away from Walt's vision. Every day they are putting on a show and the parks are the "sets" that you get to see. Seeing these things to me, is like going to a broadway play that has a damaged set and some stage lights out. It might be a bit extreme, but it is really how I feel.

Don't blame the maintenance CMs! Disney management won't give them what they need to do the job!!

Trust me I know. I am not blaming the maintenance CM's but maintenance if the parks in general. At times it is obvious when disney is trying to cut corners and it really puts a sour taste in my mouth. The CM's do the best they can with what little they get.Jacca5660 wrote:Don't blame the maintenance CMs! Disney management won't give them what they need to do the job!!

Some maintenance issues are things just go bad after a while and have to repaired. With the short budgets, Diz maintenance does get behind on its repairs. I agree, Len90, it does spoil the park's "magic".At times it is obvious when disney is trying to cut corners and it really puts a sour taste in my mouth.
Another pet peeve: if you want to blame someone for some of the poor shape the park is in - blame some of the park guests. Some people go there and behave and treat the place kindly. Most of us enjoy the park without leaving any impact. Others act differently. There are some guests - and not just kids! - who have an odd destructive behavior towards other people's property. It's the "Oh well, I don't own it so it doesn't matter what I do it" principle. I've been amazed over the years the things I've seen people do in the park - what are they thinking? This kind of stuff - where people damage something in the park - sometimes requires more immediate care to repair and saps the budgets for the small things like burnt-out bulbs.
If you really do value the parks, why not treat it more like you're most valuable possession?

People who change diapers where ever they please!
I was in MGM (Yes I still call it MGM) a while back and a woman changed her babies diaper on an outside table a pizza planet. I asked a CM to please make her stop , but he told me he couldn't do anything. Next time you go to eat at an outside table at one of the parks think about it.

This might be on the same level as the diaper changing, but is pretty different. First off, I know it is nature and that is how the baby is getting nutrition, but is it really necessary to sit down on a bench on Main Street USA and breast feed your child? Isn't there a quieter place that has less people walking around that you can go to and take care of this? It is something that really just doesn't fit/belong on Main Street USA (IMHO).
