Subsonic Radio (SR) Player

I just (finally?) discovered Eagle4life69's SR Player. That is SO COOL!!!!

For those who haven't discovered it yet, it's a small application that when loaded opens a small window and starts playing the Requests Channel (Station). (It may go to the Channel you last were at, haven't tested that yet)

It'll show the current song (with time remaining), what's coming next and what played last. You can easily change to other channels available.

When set to "Mini Bar" and minimized, it places a 2 line window on top of all windows in the upper left corner showing the current song, time remaining and who requested it.

It doesn't appear to have to open your Windows Media Player, VLC or whatever song player you use. So you don't have another window up.

Anyway, with the little search I've done for/about this, I haven't found much about it. So if nothing else, this will bring it back to the top.

I found it through Eagle4life69's signature. The site it's at is:

(hope this is ok)

Thank you Eagle4life69 for the program!

Nice! That is a neat player. I use Real Player myself...I can save the stream locations to Favorites, so I just need to open the program and select which one I want to listen. It displays the name of the music playing, and has a buffer feature where you can go back at least thirty minutes to re-listen to anything. It's great if you accidentally miss the beginning of a favorite song or something.

Huh, that's interesting. I never knew there was such a player so thank you for coming across it! I'm going to attempt to use it sometime next week to see how it works or if it does.

Thank you! This will make things easier for myself instead of having to find out what song is coming up next or what song just played. I'll give it a try as soon as possibile.

Here's a secret if you can find it. The original Subsonic player (V.2.2) works even when the server is down. It's just a stand alone player with no info or anything. Friday the server was down and I kept getting a script error with the current player. It kept turning off. So I used the old player and never had a problem.

What do you mean, if the server is down? I always thought that if the server that is streaming the music is down, nothing will work.

For what it's worth, I've been listening via Real Player nearly all day and I never had an issue.

I don't understand it either. I couldn't get on the site or get the current stand alone player to work for about 5 hours Friday. If you look on the BUGS forum there was a glitch with the sever. With the Subsonic player (V.2.2) I could listen just fine. Unfortunately I don't think it's available for download any more. I believe it was the first release of a Subsonic stand alone player. I just kept it when I first downloaded the new one.

Hmm. Either way, I haven't had any problem listening, so maybe it works with off-internet players? Anyway, thanks for the info.

I use VLC which is a better version of Windows media player. It's on my desktop. If I want scheduled I click that shortcut, or the request I click that shortcut. Granted my solution is not svelt enough to tell you what's playing untill it connects to the server and the stream starts.

Very neat, but I use iTunes for my media player. I might download this since it tells you what is coming up next.
