Subsonic blocked at work! :(

Post by GreenFairy » Nov Sat 15, 2008 10:25 am

My workplace has recently blocked a bunch of websites and subsonicradio is one of them! (They must be trying to suck the joy out of our workday!)

However, my coworkers and I have discovered that we can access other radio stations if the URL ends in player_win.html. Is there a way to get subsonicradio this way?? Any insight on how to get around this devastating situation would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

Thank you!!

i had the same problem back when i was in high school. i went home and search for a way around website and radio stations. i found a site that lets you look at blocked sites from in this site. just type in the website in the search bar and it will go to the site thats blocked. Now if you lessen from the website it should work. not guaranteeing anything but good luck!

I did the same thing as MetalRage because I used to have Myspace blocked at my high school. I forgot how to manuever around it now since it's been so long but I hope you find a way to get to Subsonic at work!

The site runs on Shoutcast (that's how we keep it free and sans-commercials). I'm not sure exactly how Shoutcast works (haven't had inside access to it in about a year and a half or so) so I'm not sure if it's possible. Subsonic or redeacon should be able to answer this question...

Do you remember what that site is? My office has done the same thing. It is their attempt to stop people from listening to streaming music. But I am not one to obey so easily. Viva la revolucion!

My college does this sometimes but luckily they haven't blocked Subsonic out (Facebook and MySpace are on some of the computer lab PCs, though). Good luck getting the site at work!!

Rutgers has not blocked out subsonic. However, if you use up too much bandwidth they will take your internet privileges away for a week. Luckily, I commute!

Yeah I have to agree with the above post. Most places block radio stations because of the bandwidth it takes to run them. However, if you google search "anonymous web proxy servers" you'd probably come up with a way around those evil firewalls. :)

Whats the cap? Do they at least give you guys a meter to find out if you are even close to the limit? This is the type of thing that really gets my goat.

I had the same problem at work as well, but for some odd reason ive been able to go on to the blocked sites recently. Seems as though theyve removed our blocks, but thats besides the point. :)

Someone gave me this link and i have yet to try it since subsonicradio isnt blocked for me anymore. This uses google as a proxy site i believe. Give it a try and see if it works for you. Ive kept this link in case our block gets re-instated.

Good luck!

**UPDATE**
Make sure to highlight the whole link and paste. The whole line that i pasted didnt get included in the link.

Some places you can use google as a proxy. This will let you circumvent some blocks.

Let us know if that works.

Proxies do seem to work better so do what rdeacon says and try it out! If it doesn't work, we'll think of another way to help you out!

I'll give the google proxy thing a try next time I'm at work! I'll let you know how it goes! Thanks for the suggestion!

Your guess is as good as mine. From what I understand there is no warning, just notification when your privileges have been taken away.

Question. Is the website blocked or is the stream blocked? Listening to the stream is totally different than looking at the website.

http://classic.shoutcast.com/?s=subsonic%27s Can you see this website? You can get to the streams there.

Also, if you're using winamp (or perhaps other programs) when you connect to a stream you can save it as a playlist then load it without having to visit the site. That's what I do.
