So I'm sitting here listening away, when I hear that song the farmer sings to Babe in the movie "Babe" thinking, "that was NOT a disney movie". So I look at what's playing, and it's music from impressions de france!
I hope I'm not the only idiot who thought this

Dunno about Babe, but part of it reminds me of the fountain scene near the end of Ocean's Eleven.

Idon't remember that song, but some of the impressions in Impressions sound familiar. It's a nice song though, very relaxing.

That track is a medley of classical music used in this attraction:

Oooh, thanks for the list. I never bothered looking it up, figuring it would be too obscure to be listed anywhere.

That's because it IS used at the end of Ocean's Eleven

To be specific, I think they use Clair de Lune in Ocean's Eleven. 8)

i LOVE impressions de france. One of my favorite songs from my WDWF soundtrack. So relaxing. My girlfriend is actually doing a point dance to it with her dance school soon. I can't WAIT to see it!

Impressions de France is fantasic - it has lead me to purchase 3 different versions of Camille Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals by different conductors - they are all awesome!

Claire de Lune is a very popular piece and has been used many times in films, TV shows and commercials. Here is a partial list from Wikipedia:
Ocean's Eleven
And the Ship Sails On
Down and Out in Beverly Hills
Man on Fire
The Right Stuff
The Darjeeling Limited
The Simpsons
Nip/Tuck
And Wikipedia also says that a sequence based on Claire de Lune was done for the original Fantasia but was cut from the final film. It is supposedly available as an extra on a DVD edition of Fantasia. It was a scene of egrets and sounds like it would be really cool. Anyone familiar with it?

I think they reused the animation in either melody time or make mine music, but they changed the music from clare de lune to something else. I'm pretty sure as a bonus feature you could watch the animation with the alternate calre de lune though. Maybe this was also included on that three disc special edtion of fantasia (that I should have bought a few years back

)
As far as Saint Saens, he is one of my favorite classical musicians. The Organ Symphony (i believe it's called, the final piece played when the eiffel tower is shown) is beautiful. The Carnival of the Animals is also excellent. What Saint Saens did with the music reminds me of the way Walt Disney thought: Take something familiar and put a spin on it so it becomes something new. I'm surprised Disney never made a full animated feature using all the music from Carnival of the Animals. When I heard that the finale was being used in Fantasia 2000, I was semi-disappointed to find out that that was the only piece they used. We even owe Saint Saens credit for Space Mountain's original soundtrack, "The Aquarium", from the Carnival of the Animals.

The Carnival of the Animals peice called Finale is also used in the movie at EPCOT it is also more cheerful and bubbly.

i remember babe having a lot of "classical" sounding instrumentals....dunno if that's the best way to describe them, but i remember the movie having a lot of songs that were in many other movies, cartoons, etc.
like, i vaguely remember the part where babe goes into the farmer's house and makes a huge mess accidentally-- i remember that having a very well-known song used in bloopery type scenes.
i wish i knew that name to that one, cuz then this post would make a lot more sense
but, yea...i wouldn't be surprised if it's just the same music

I know exactly the "Babe" song you're thinking of - and I remember getting it stuck in my head for WEEKS after watching the film for the first time, thinking "where have I heard that before??"
It's the "Maestoso-Allegro (Piu allegro-Molto allegro)" from the 2nd movement of Symphony #3 in C minor by Camille Saint-Saens. You can download that piece from iTunes, just search for Saint-Saens: Organ Symphony.
Good luck, and happy listening! Someday I plan to do an iTunes mix of just "Impressions de France" music. Yes, I'm a classical music nerd...whatever.
