Once Apple release the iPhone SDK, I doubt it'll be long before someone ports a stream recieving app to it, however I'd be concerned on the amount of data transfer it'd need and the cost if you do it over EDGE.. Using wifi for it would be a more sensible idea I think ;)

Andy. Not an iPhone or iPod Touch owner.

Data is "unlilmited" until AT&T realizes they are getting screwed but I agree about using it wifi and not edge....

yeah, I imagine that ATT will have the jack up the rates soon. hopefully they can add a WiFi reciever to the iphone and make this feasible?

Whoa, there. That's dangerous talk. You'll conform and want what Steve Jobs tells you want. Okay?

Thats why I hate Apple and love Microsoft.

With Microsoft I can usually figure out a way to do most things but apple seems to trouble me.

The only reason I bought the touch was for the wifi, otherwise I wouldnt have bought it, believe it will be a cold day before I switch to Apple.

An interesting thought, and one that had previously occurred to me. You're right that it likely won't be a possibility until someone writes a streaming program.

Just to clarify, however, the distinction between an iPod Touch and an iPhone. The iPod touch can use wireless, but it does not have AT&T Edge capabilities. You need a local wifi network to access the web with the iPod Touch. If you're using Edge to connect, you're paying AT&T for the "unlimited service" that comes with an iPhone.

Hey, I hope you saw the  . I was half-way kidding. Or was I...????

In case anybody is interested, I have the HTC Mogul from Sprint. It has a touch screen/stylus and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. I can connect to the Sprint cell network(in my hometown, with about 7KB download speed), or through Sprint's EVDO network in larger cities(about 700KB download). It also has built in Wifi, as well as Bluetooth, and all the other bells and whistles you'd expect. Because it's Windows Mobile based, I can install lots of programs written by smart people who are not under the thumb of Bill Gates(good-natured jab at Apple).

Before this post gets too far off topic, a third party program allows me to stream SubsonicRadio, which really helps during the hour I spend in the car everyday. Sure I wear earbuds, but I drive the speed limit in the right lane anyway.

Rumor is that the iPod player in the iPhone does streaming, it's just not enabled because AT&T didn't want people streaming music over Edge.

Hahaha! thats why I got the Archos 605 wifi so I could do all of this. I just need to figure out a way to send a wifi signal into the parks so I can pick it up for free......hmmmm perhaps some sort of satellite with killer death rays and atomic monkeys.............

(for those that want to know, that is in reference to the Professor in Futurama, I have been watching it over the past few days so......)

There is wifi in the parks (at WDW at least), because the handheld cash registers they use on the carts (like the one I used) use wifi to communicate with the cash server thing. (they run WindowsCE, eugh. They switched to new ones from old ones that ran on Palm whilst I was there).

Of course, I very much doubt you can connect to it using your own equipment...

Andy.
