There should be a way to preview the songs we might request

Just now I recommended a song and it turns out its not the one I wanted to hear. I've been trying to hear the song that plays at the end of Space Mountain but to no avail. Then I see an avaliable song, but it just says Space Mountain--I'm not sure which song specifically it was. Turns out it was just the audio that plays while you wait, the short conversations said over the intercom, not any music specifically.
There should be a way to sample the songs, just to make sure we are spending our points on the right music. Nothing long, a mere 30-second preview would do.
What do you think?

Yeah, I think that does sound like a good idea too. It would be like the 30 second previews on iTunes.
But it might be a lot of work for subsonic to set up. One of the admins would have to comment on that.
Also, there are many tracks that are actually less than 30 seconds, so a preview would mean that the entire track is played.

But a 30 second preview of a My Pal Mickey could be fun!

Yeah maybe he could think of a better joke in that extra time.
But seriously, what part of the end is this song found? And which space mountain World, Land, Paris, Tokyo?

I think that you also will know what most of the tracks are as you start listening for longer periods. In fact, most of my Treasured Tracks are songs that I heard and then Treasured instead of actively seeking out or requesting myself.
I'm not sure that the time involved to add the functionality would outweigh the benefits, as this would more than likely be helpful to only relatively new listeners, as I imagine most listeners are familiar with most of the tracks.

I am not a definitive resource about the configuration of the SR streams but I am confident it is impossible to do anything like what you are requesting without a VERY elaborate system configuration, multiple streams, or at least a lot of bandwidth from the server (which I believe doesn't have a whole lot). All of the streams are being relayed by a most generous donor.
You would have to essentially create a preview for EVERY track SR has [I wouldn't want to do that!

] and then everytime someone wanted a preview, they would have to download that file. While feasible, it would require a lot of work and extra bandwidth.

The end song to the original Space Mountain, which can be found in Magic Kingdom and used to play in Disneyland before they changed the layout of the ride--that's the one I am looking for.

while a good idea, I do believe that YZFDonor has hit the nail right on the head

also, cap396 is right in saying we have quite a few tracks that are alot shorter than 30 seconds. there are also a few tracks that swtich styles/songs (usually the longer loops) at various points within the track, and a small 30 second sample might now give you a great preview of that track.

Two suggestions (and why SR has the features):
1) Just listen and when you hear something you like, go to the Now Playing Page and Treasure it.
2) Select random stuff and if you like it, Treasure it. If you don't, don't play it again.
I know it's tough with so few starting points but either those are your choices or become active in the forums [with pertinent and meaningful posts]! We love seeing everyone in the forum and especially when people drop by the chat and say hi! New comers to the IRC Chat *usually* get a free track played if there is an admin and the queue isn't out of sight.

Where is this IRC Chat located?
And I agree that most of my favorite tracks are usually something that I listened too that somebody else requested or picked randomally.

Nancynohorse has been known to say to me, "What did you select THAT for?"
And I reply, "To see what it sounded like."
