Just a little reminder that Subsonic Radio does have a chat. Usually people are in there talking during work hours.

Stop by, it can be fun!

I've always wanted to join in the chat, but for some reason every time I try to I get this error:
Unable to connect : java.net.SocketException : Software caused connection abort: connect
I'm 100% positive it's a problem with the network here at work and no fault of the chat client. I've been planning on joining when i get home for the day, but I always forget to.

The chat uses IRC to connect, so the most likely reason if it isn't working is that your firewall is stopping it. At work, this would make sense.
I don't think there's a way around that, really. Unless someone wants to come up with something where the server handles the actual connection part instead of teh client...

My work blocked the port on me. I used to be able to Chat regularly from this computer but now I can't. But that is why I built a wireless desktop to use for it..........Unfortunately one of my co-workers uses it all the time and I can never get on the thing. He's on it as I type watching Resident Evil 3, which is a good movie but inappropriate at work.

I can't wait until he is gone, not to much longer though.

Hah, I wondered why you weren't around much these days
Andy. Uses a linux command line based IRC client on his server that he SSHes into so he doesn't have to worry about the IRC port being blocked.

But not all of us work from home anyway.

Some of us actually get out of the house.

I would like to join the chat however I always get an error that states the digital signature has expired.? What exactly does that mean?

I also get a message about the signature of the java applet the website version of the chat uses. You should be able to press a button to "trust" the signature, even though it's expired. Essentially, it's just warning you that the chat needs to access your computer so it can connect to the chat itself. Pressing "Trust" (or similar, whatever your particular browser labels it as) should let it load as normal.

I join the chat every so often (every 6 months or so). I'm also usually there if there's a Live DJ Chat (hint, hint

)

So does the java chat need to be updated? Is there something more reliable and wide spread that can be used to connect to IRC on a webpage?

Is there a way that you can fix the digital signature error that I mentioned earlier in this post? I mean other than me clicking accept.

I don't get that error. You could try downloading his certificate and always trusting it. That mght fix it.
Machine Type?
Operating system and version?
What browser are you using?

Since I had read that others had gotten the same message I just wondered if there was something on the Subsonic end that could be done to make this error go away or if it is totally on my end.
