I heard that one not too long ago, and wondered the exact same thing. There is definitely a strange buzzing noise, but i don't know what it, sorry.

The generator is a prop in the queue line. Its used to make you feel like your in a jungle at an excavation site. The theming goes right along with typical Indiana Jones movies. The whole queue is centered around the expedtionary theming. Once you actually see the generator you will totally see why its there.

One of those things where you just have to be there to understand the generator prop.

no, the Indiana Jones Adventure ride is not at WDW, and it's not at DCA either. it's right at DLR in Adventureland

Generator Whine

Post by Bullwinkle » Oct Sat 13, 2007 9:40 pm

When you first enter the queue, you'll come across "the generator". If you pay attention, the generator is supplying power to the entire pre-show queue area. When it hiccups, the lights dim and flicker. No small feat for the Imagineers...this queue is one of the longest in the park...But all of the lights flicker in unison..
The high pitched whine is deliberate and themed.

Funny... that sound has always vaguely annoyed me, but not enough for me to find out why it's there. At first I thought it sounded like an old fashioned sewing machine, but I couldn't figure out why there would be a sewing machine in an Indiana Jones attraction. Then I thought it was similar to the dentist drill sound from Main Street, but that still didn't make any sense. At least the generator explanation is logical, but it's still an irritating sound when you have to listen to it through the whole track.

It's meant to be a background track..atmosphere...it was never intended to be a
"stand alone". In conjuction with the crowd and the Jungle Cruise next door you'd probably wouldn't even be aware of it. Unless it was missing. theming.

Honestly when your in line you can only really hear the "generator" when your within 15 feet or so of the "generator". Bullwinkle's right when your walking around in the queue you really aren't paying attention to the "generator" until you see the thing up close even then it is quiet.

The best part of the generator is that its whining is linked to the lights in the area... both outside in the switchback queue and inside the temple. When the generator slows, the lights flicker, perfectly synced. One of my favorite little pieces of theming at DL, and one of the things that makes Adventureland so incredible after dark.

That whole generator thing confused me when I first heard the queue loop - I thought something was wrong with the speakers until my brother explained it to me.

And clearly I'm not the only one on the lookout for details of perfection. I'd noticed the generator and lights timing as well and couldn't believe how much time was put into the detailing of the queue. Now if they could just transfer all that over with the new budget to DCA...
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

Ok...A coupla other Indiana Jones things...
When the ride first opened it was heralded as the first ride that would be different every time you rode it...Courtesy of show control computers...dialogue...rooms (i.e. snakes, spiders, darts) would change... up to 20,000 different combinations. Still holds true...just not "advertised" anymore.
I have one other "tidbit " but need to do a little bit of research first.

I thought it was the noise to an old crystal set. I mean like the real old radio sets. I told my DW it was part of the show. You know, you were hearing a 30's radio broadcast.
