24 hrs to regenerate points - question!

Hey admin folk (and everyone else)

,
I just wondered if there was a specific reason why we have to wait 24 hours for points to regenerate? Is there a tech reason to that for the servers? Or is there some other logic to it?
Reason I wondered... see, I can be on here from work and if I make requests at 8 AM while I'm there, I'd
want to be able to make requests at 8 PM that evening when I'm online from home and just hanging out. (Without having to ration out my numbers to do that, I mean.

)
See, regenerating every 12 hours instead... yeah, that would be great to me.

So, I just wondered.
Thanks!

I like the 24 hour method, but I'm wondering if they can regenerate as time goes buy. So over 24 hours you get 100% of the points you spend, but you get the points as they regenerate (so instead of just being a percent meter, you'd actually get points as that meter moved).

the reason that the regenration is set at 24 hours is to avoid abuse of the request system. It has nothing to do with the server or any other tech reason, other than Subsonic's preference for time.
the debate has come up before about the 12 hour/24 hour regen. I, for one, am in favor of the way the request system is set up right now. Just the right amount of time for the times I listen each day. and I hate hearing repeats all the time, so the time between when you can request tracks again (something like 3 days) is just fine with me.

Yeah, I don't mind the 3 day wait on a track - that's fine.
I just wondered about the 24 hour part of things.

I think the 24 regen period encourages participation in the forums. Participate enough, and you'll have more request points than you'll know what to do with.
That's what I'm working towards.
(oh yeah, and the conversation is good, too!)

Yeah, I agree about the forums.
I like the current 24-hour system. Sure, I'd love to be able to listen to whatever I want, whenever I want, but you can imagine how this would quickly become a problem.

I guess I'm rather un-devious (not implying any of you ARE devious, mind!). I don't really understand what problems it would raise if it were less than 24-hours to regenerate. I mean... there are some times I log in and there are a good 4 hours worth of requests on the now-playing list from a great many other users, and whether or not the songs are ones I'd want to listen to is kinda immaterial because I'll respect peoples' choices even if they aren't
my favorite tracks (like - haha - Carousel of Progress

). So either I listen, or I don't right then if the playlist is already long, and I request or I don't if I can afford to sit around that long.
So... anyway, thanks for the replies. I don't understand though.

Reducing to 12 hours would allow higher post people to dominate the playlist even more. I felt 24 hours is good and it'll stay there. I do have plans to help counter the higher post people's domination, but it's very low on my list of what to do.

Ahhhh, putting it that way does make sense. Thanks!

It's true most of the time now, i just listen because i can't think of what to do with all of the points I've received. You can either request some of the really long tracks and dominate for a few hours at a time, or put together a ton of smaller tracks. I would feel bad about choosing 2-3 hours worth of tracks back to back.
