Awesome, Just heard the Last Starfighter Theme

Post by jrcohen » Jul Thu 13, 2006 9:26 am

Wow, i didn't know this was on here. Was it a Disney movie? This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. When we got married my wife had never even heard of it. She never understood why my away message on AIM used to be "Greetings Starfighter, You have been recruited by the Star Leage to defend the frontier against from Xur and the KO-Dan Armada." Now we own it on DVD. Man, i need to watch that again.

Addlema, I love your taste in tracks!. Following The Last Starfighter with the 1982 Epcot Entrance Medley! 2 great tracks back to back. Can I get a "Hoo Ha!"

The Last Starfighter (also one of my all-time favorite popcorn flicks, LOVED it as a kid) was not a Disney movie, but a Universal Pictures release.

However, it's here because the theme is used as area music in Disney's California Adventure park in the "Condor Flats" region (near Soarin' Over California)... another one of my fave tracks on here, the end titles theme from the movie "Dave" (starring Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver... a GREAT movie as well) are used in the San Francisco-themed area of the DCA waterfront. Dave was a Warner Bros. picture.

Disney's done this kind of thing for ages, though... the theme from "Bonanza" (an NBC show) has been used as area music for Frontierland for many years.

I never realized that Disney paid Homage to other entertainment companies in their theme parks. I guess it's not really that different from when they use some of the famous theme songs from older movies in movie trailers. I can't remember what movie it was but I know recently I saw a trailer where in the background they were playing Madmardigan's theme from Willow (another great 80's movie) "I love you Sorcia, I worship you Sorcia... You almost got us killed!!!!!!!"

Tracks like these are always sketchy with me. Sometimes I don't feel they should be in because they aren't made by disney. But then that would go against a bunch of other tracks on the site. With the addition of all the Wilderness Lodge tracks SR is becoming like streaming soundtracks. :(

I thought it was weird when I heard the Iron Chef theme at Universal Studios Orlando. Turns out, it was originally the theme from Backdraft and Iron Chef just picked it up. There's no Backdraft attraction at Universal in Orlando, though.

Thanks for the props :) I was worried people would be mad at me for requesting the 1982 entrance medley in the middle of the day...

I think we should try and plan a meet there. Once you know the exact dates, I can plan it way in advance.

I have no problems with hearing the 1982 entrance medley in the middle of the day. Works great for me. It's background music that I love, but don't need to pay too much attention to since there's no lyrics, so I can still get lots of stuff done.
