Web based experiment

Post by BleuLlama » Jun Sun 07, 2015 8:41 pm

Here's a little something from the SSR Skunkworks:

http://subsonicradio.com/SSRJSDEMO

It's incomplete (there are features I'd love to see on it) and more of a "proof of concept" just to show what can be done with the current round of web technologies we've got behind the scenes here at subsonicradio.com...

In short, it'll show you which streams are up with icons. mouse over the icon to see the number of listeners, current song (both at the time that the page was loaded-- it doesn't update that). Click on one to bring up a HTML5 player (should work in all modern web browsers, desktop or mobile), which displays the stream info, and the currently(ish) playing song.

It might stop working while things are done with it. It might not be here in the future. but for now, feel free to try it out and/or use it all the time. ;)

enjoy!

I actually kinda like it. Thanks for doing this. I typically use the Windows Desktop application, but sometimes that acts weird for me, so having this is a fallback (and maybe even will take over as primary) method for connecting is fantastic!

ok this is pretty nifty

I wonder if it will work better than the Android app I'm using now which sadly doesn't display the current track playing like the iOS version and Windows Desktop app.

Thanks again

Very cool Bleu. I definitely like those icons a lot. Looks very retro Disney and I am a huge fan of that :D

Does Bootstrap normally use inline CSS? Yuck.

Thanks! As I mentioned, this is rough and feature incomplete for a 'final product', as it were.. It started as a proof-of-concept for all of these fancy web things. A version of this may be integrated in to the next version of SR... when that gets rolled out...

Really neat BleuLlama. I especially like the little chairs on Soarin'. I had to do a double-take on that one.

Some of these are abstract enough to remind me of Droodles (that's a compliment). Like this classic from my youth:

Image

Which is entitled "Ship arriving too late to save a drowning witch."
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

I thought those were people's feet on the Soarin' one.

Cute droodle horizons1 :D We played with those too, but I never knew they had a name.

First time in the forums for a while, because I was trying to track down the URL for this page. Really love the icons and style, but it doesn't seem to be working anymore. Anyone know why?

I looked at it again today and it seems to work for me on Chrome. You have to click the small Play button once you select a channel and then wait a bit for the stream to start.

Huh. I'm on Chrome too, but I'm getting a "connection refused" message and the small play button is gray rather than black - not working as a button. I'll see what our I.T. guy has to say - I'm sure he doesn't have anything better to work on!

Can you play the streams normally from work? My work blocks them, so when I work from home I don't log into the VPN just so I can keep listening!
