you don't actually upload the avatar to subsonic radio (your profile). the picture should be hosted on a site similar to photobucket. You then just enter the url for that picture. if you have a specific picture you'd like to use, and do not want to use a phto site, please let me know. I'll host the picture on my photobucket account, and put it in as your avatar

What size avitar did you try? Mine is 120x120, if that helps.Magique wrote:I guess I will write this here. I've been having trouble with the avatar upload. For some reason, every time I try to upload a picture, it shows up pixelated. I would appreciate any ideas on what I should do to fix it.

Send me the link and I can see what you mean.Magique wrote:Well, I wanted at least a temporary avatar. I already knew that the picture should be hosted on another site. The problem I have is that it appears pixelated.

For example:

or

I found these pictures on Photobucket, by the way, I did not create them. Is that okay?

it's ok if you did not create them. that's not a problem. I put one of the pictures (the goofy one) into my photobucket account and tried it on your profile. looks fine to me. I'll try out a copr of other things to see if I get any variations.
when you're doing it, how badly is the picture pixalated? cause at least on the Belle one, there is some slight pixelaton on the image you have in phtobucket, and it's amplified a bit, as the picture you have is 100x100 and the site stretches it a bit to 120x120. the goofy one looks fine as it is.

Images tend to look pixelated due to a few things.
1. If you take a smaller picture (say 100x100 pixels) and try to make it bigger (like 200x200 pixels), then the pixels have to stretch to make up the area. It would be like me (a grown adult) fitting into a child's sweater... the fabric would look distorted trying to cover a larger body.
2. if you also try to "squish" an image, it's sort of the same... too much material in a small space... (think about an overstuffed fabric suitcase).
Your best bet is to use the image @ it's actual size... if the small image NEEDS to fit in a larger space, I would "build" white space around it (like adding a border), and if the image is too large, it's so much easier to shrink it down. If you need help w/ these, just ask one of us and we can give ya a hand w/ the photo manipulation.

"Hey, Look at that guy in the Goofy Mask!" "That's not a mask!" "Oh... Sorry Lady!"
You all have given long explanations for something that's simple. Magique, your final image needs to be 120 pixels wide. The pixelation issue is that you're seeing is the browser does a poor job of scaling your image down. It's really loading your full image (which also makes loading pages slower) and using it's poor scaling to view it.
Knedeau's final paragraph is correct. Use a program like irfanview or photoshop to scale the image to 120px wide.

try irfanview. it's freeware. just go to http://www.irfanview.com/Magique wrote:Okay. Because I thought it said that at the max it could be 120x120. Does it have to be that large to work? Also, I don't have any program (such as Photoshop) to change the size.

Maqique,
What you have to do is make sure that your image is 125x125 exactly. Mine was doing the same thing, as the forum seems to "force" it that shape if its not exactly that.
