Post by kenhopwdw » Jan Fri 09, 2009 2:41 pm

Is there going to be a new park Album this year? I was also wondering is there any new song for toy story mania?

They make a new album every year, but for the most part the songs are always the same. :) - blue

You know, that is a shame.. there is such a HUGE library to choose from.. I mean look at all the stuff this site has, and I know there is alot even they dont have here..

And yet they keep putting in the same music. It is such a missed opportunity for hard-core fans like ourselves to have some less popular music.

I agree it is a missed opportunity for us but the avarage visitor (boy do I sound like a snob) likes those songs because they don't go back to Disney multiple times.
:mickey: I know they sure sell a lot of those albums, I just wish I had the option of the music kiosks.

I know.. the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

You are 100% right about that, and after I had posted it I thought about that.

But I am sure that there is a way that Disney could please both groups. I know the economy is in a downturn, but there is no reason why they couldn't make smaller runs of CDs for fans like us while continuing to mass produce the ones for the people in the parks.

I don't mean limited as in print on demand, that would be cost-prohibitie, but I mean just print 10,000 instead of 2-3 million of the park CDs, - just throwing out random numbers. I of course have no idea what thier numbers are.

Do you think that would work? And if so do you thin they would ever do it? I mean it cant cost more than a dollar or two to make the CDs and they already have the rights to the music.
They could charge 17-20 dollars, or maybe even more and I bet people would pay.

I don't know if they would do a limited run of any albums, Disney is mainly into pleasing (or doing what they believe will please) the majority of their guests. I think it would make money since as you said they already own the rights and it doesn't cost much to burn a CD but I don't think it would make enough to interest Disney in during this type of albums. :( Perhaps one of these days a far thinking management group will produce a few speciality albums for the hard core Disney fans to enjoy. Its nice to dream....

*Sigh* You are right. I know it is just a far fetched dream to think that Disney would do this... it is funny though, if they knew about places like the Extinct Attractions website, which offers A LOT of old videos and music, then I bet they would see the piece of the pie they are missing. I know Disney loves to find more ways to make money.

But I guess it is a dream we will continue to have. :)

Trust me, they know about the extinct sites, they know about the videos on the sites and YouTube, but they piece of the pie they are missing is just too small for them to bother. There just aren't enough die-hard fans to make it profitable enough for Disney to invest the 24 cents per CD it costs to produce. John and Jane Smith who come to the parks with their 2.5 kids once every 5 years only want to buy the standard music. And that is all Disney cares about.
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

That makes alot more sense, to make them available online electronically, but it would still take a lot of manpower and resources, and I guess they are just not willing to spend either.
It is a shame.. they are missing a *MAJOR* opportunity.
They have some mp3 available on Amazon and iTunes, but the potential is there for so much more.

I found a park CD at Epcot the other day. It has tracks from all four parks on it. Not sure if it's new, but it has the new "Four Parks- One World" theme going so i'm guessing it is. Nice mix of audio on it.

Do they still have the "CD" makers in the parks? I thought at one time I heard you could go to this kiosk machine and make your own cd's, you just picked the songs and wa-la..a cd came out with your own music, and they had several of these with different music on each so no two were alike.

I have been quite a bit in the last few years and have never seen a CD making kiosk recently. I don't think they have them anymore. They really do need to release some of these vintage things via iTunes. I love that idea!
