A sugestion on the refresh rate
OK, so I fully understand the reason for setting limits on the number of times someone can request the full spaceship earth ride through, etc.... It's not fair to everyone else who might want to listen to something else. But what if enough of us want to listen to it sooner? I'm sure this would be a crazy undertaking but what if there was a separate button next to the add button that would just keep track of the number of people who would select that track if it were available. And when it hits a certain number of people, 25, 50, 100, etc.. it will play and the last person will have their account debited.
Of course if there are legal reasons why the tracks aren't available all the time then I guess this isn't possible.
So that's my thought for the day.

I don't believe there are any legal reason why something like this could not happen. If there were any legal issue, I believe the site would be shut down for some kind of copyright issue. so, no worries there.
as to the idea, I don't think this would go over too well. first, I think that people would feel slighted if they were the last one, as (per your suggestion), they would have their points taken away. Second, something like this would probably violate the 30 minutes between requests for a single user. Third, and probably most important, I believe that something like this would be too hard to code into the system already in place.
and there's an easier way to have a track played (other than the standard request system, of course). go into the chat. During the week, Subsonic and/or rdeacon are in the chat and can queue up tracks and have them played (more or less) on demand.

Yah but watch me scream if I waited for hours to hear my requests and requests get bumped in there just because someone visited the chat... grrrrrjs3901 wrote:and there's an easier way to have a track played (other than the standard request system, of course). go into the chat. So while visiting the chat is fun and I totally love being in there, I don't think it should be a place for people to go just so that they can have their songs come up at that moment, mainly because a lot of us have been waiting for hours to hear ours. I have never seen it being abused or over used and I know Sub and Rich wouldn't let that happen. So it's not that big of a deal.
I tend to be pretty laid back, go with the flow type person and enjoy this site and how well it works for the amount of people that are now on the site as compared to when it first started out. I think all the MOD's, ADMIN's & Sub do a fabulous job at keeping this growing community happy

Great job Team Subsonic for making things work so well for all of us Disney-holics!

Sub and rdeacon would have to answer for that, bostoncg. I'm sure they take into account the fact that people have been waiting for a while for tracks to play. I'm also sure they won't queue up tracks when the queue is extremely busy. They won't play with the queue/server for everyone all the time...
In any case, they'd be the ones to talk to about queueing up tracks for people. I just run the forums. They do the site/server...

Oh I know, I was just putting my thoughts on here, like I said it's really no biggie and the site works well as it is.js3901 wrote:Sub and rdeacon would have to answer for that, bostoncg. Actually last week I had made some requests that I waited a couple hours for that got bumped later than 5pm when I would not be able to hear them at work. So it does happen, but since I get all this for free I willingly submit to the wisdom of those putting in the time and money to keep it all going.

Hmm, didn't know all this. Thanks!
As for the last person slighted thing. They wouldn't be slighted. These are people who would request the track if they could but it's not available. So they should be willing to spend the points to hear it played. Does that make sense. I was just bummed that my track wasn't available and I was thinking that if there were a system like this then it could get played sooner. And if there was a system like this whoever clicks on it would have to be aware that they could be dinged for the downloand. But they wanted to hear it anyway so they should be willing to pay. I guess it's not that the last person would be slighted, it's that the first 49 or 99 or whatever get to hear it for free. But really we all get to hear the queued music for free if we don't use our points to hear it. IDK. It was just a thought. I'm sure it would be technically difficult. I don't have any idea how to go about creating it.
Well even with the delay on requesting previously played tracks this site is still one of the best Disney sites on the web!

Think some clarifications need to be made.
The delay on requesting tracks was set in place to stop tracks from being repeated constantly. By adding an additional "demand" button would bypass the point of delay. It's inherent that certain tracks are going to be more popular then others and have a high request rate. I personally feel that lowering the request time or allowing it to by bypassed opens the door for the site to be repetitious and boring, but its something we can debate amongst the admins.
As for the requests in chat. We do get infrequent requests to queue up tracks. Most times we will queue them on the scheduled stream. Rarely do we bump tracks before others, as we know the queue is often long, and members expect their requests to be played at a certain time. If we have bumped your tracks we apologize, but I know personally I have done this maybe once, twice in the last few years, and its not a daily occurrence.
Let us know if you have any other questions, and thanks for the ideas and feedback.

SR's been around for close to 5 years now. I've been tweaking the request system for some time now with suggestions from people on the site and in the chat. Here we are today, long queue lines (hey, it's like waiting for new attractions at the parks). As rdeacon said, we limit tracks because we would hear Pirates and Haunted Mansion over and over again. If we didn't limit the tracks, the stream would get very repetitious.
Now, that said, when we switched to this current system it worked fine in the beginning, as the site grew we now run into these complications of long queues. What I'm saying is that the system isn't perfect. Once I get off my lazy bum or less busy we have plans to improve the system. It's going to be a large undertaking but the results will be well worth it. Don't ask when it's going to be complete because I have new clue when I'm even going to st start.
As far as JS3901 said, yes, if you come to the chat, we'll sometimes queue stuff up for you. And as rdeacon said, we will sometimes queue it up on the requests stream or if that's busy, we'll queue it on the schedule stream. Sometimes I'll upset people like bostoncg and go crazy and play stuff I want to hear on the requests stream but I haven't done that in a while.
Oh, and if you ask all the time, and just take us for granted, don't expect your requests to get satisified all the time.
