Avatar Upload

Post by rudekick » Apr Tue 18, 2006 1:07 pm

Does anyone know a good place to upload an image for your avatar? Back in the day I just made a geocities account for it, but I only used it for the image and they shut my account down.

http://www.imageshack.us is the best. You don't have to sign up or even give an email address, but if you do (free), you can keep an album of your previously uploaded photos.

I wouldn't recommend photobucket, as signing up there is a pain, and they limit your bandwidth. Imageshack will give you a direct url, don't copy anything but the Direct Link to Image.

And for files, use http://www.badongo.com
The ads and wait time are nowhere near as bad as some other sites.

Or, if you want another free site, go to http://www.filelodge.com
You have to sign up first, but it's free, and they allow you 500 MB of storage and unlimited bandwidth :!: :!:

Since they allow you to hotlink, you can use them for hosting mp3 or mpegs to embed into a site, or you can post a direct download link, so people don't need to be redirected to another site. I use filelodge for a lot of the large files on my site, I haven't had any problems yet.

You're welcome. I am try to spread the word about those three great (free) sites, because its always annoying when you have your image replaced by a "bandwidth exceeded" button.

I also want people to stop using those sites like rapidshare and putfile, because they make you wait before you can download, or you have to sign up for yourself in order to download.

Need to get the Mrs. to retake the picture with me in my shirt (and holding my mug!). She's swamped with the end of her semester (we're both finishing our last year of grad school). I hope to do it soon...

I use photobucket myslef for my avatar. I haven't had any kind of problem with them, and signing up wasn't too bad either. I've signed up on worse sights before...

If photobucket is based on bandwidth, there's probably plenty then. Considering that js3901 is all over this forum, the image is only being downloaded once, your browser fills in the rest. If your image is smaller, I can't see photobucket being a problem.

I've also posted alot of pics from there. I don;t keep pics on there for long periods of time (the exception being icons). everything else I remoive after about 3 months, and that's just personal preference...

I guess I will write this here. I've been having trouble with the avatar upload. For some reason, every time I try to upload a picture, it shows up pixelated. I would appreciate any ideas on what I should do to fix it.
