Does anyone find it annoying that some people only post in the forums just to get points, and post bogus threads?

I have done this, not starting a thread but posting to post. I did it mainly in the first few weeks of my being on this board, but I think I have toned it down. I can't get on the chat at work so I post and lately I haven't been getting on the computer at home because I'm demoing my new place and starting from scratch. So I will try to tone it down even more but I do like to talk, just ask cmcd13.

I have to say this question made me laugh at first, then two questions came to mind:

1) Does my saying this is funny constitute a bogus post?

2) Do I get a point just for voting?
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

votes do not count towards points. however, just saying "that's funny" or posting a smiley DOES count. this is what we try to discourage.

Maybe I just don't search correctly. I do think we have posts on the same subject lines. If there was a better way to search maybe that would help? Is there a way to go in and delete old topics from years ago, and consolidate some of the ones we have now? I know that would be very time consuming and you all maintain this site on your own time, which I greatly appreciate. It is a little mind boggling when I see all the topics on here, I could never go through all of them :D
Maybe sub categories like WDW - Rides; WDW - Shows, WDW- Parks.......... I don't know, just trying to think of ways to help :?
How do you do a search? Is there some forum search feature (the one I mentioned in my previous post) I can't find? Or do you just look at topic titles? I think the latter can be a bit misleading because some topics get labeled vaguely i.e. someone may put a topic "What do you think?" with a poll regarding some random ride or something, but you wouldn't know it's about that ride unless you actually go into it and read. Granted, that's the result of the original poster for not putting a very good topic title on it but it can happen.

Yes. Look at the bar at the top of the screen when you are in the forums. It says "Profile - Private Messages - FAQ - Member List - Search........"

That should work.

I didn't see it at first either cause I didn't pay attention to the tool bar :D
Hopefully with the answer rudekick provided you have been able to find it. It's pretty cool to look through the memberlist too you can see how much this site has grown!

I know I have trouble keeping up with the forums these days.
This is an important topic for me to read.

Here's my views:
Pointless posts
I partially agree with js3901 on the fact that there shouldn't be more than several threads on the same topic. I think it's mostly a problem of people not seeing that there are older threads regarding the topic. Perhaps the search is difficult to find.
But, even if there are several threads, if people are saying insightful stuff or anything that has meaning, it should be okay. If someone wants to talk about their experiences regarding anything, especially Disney, it should be okay. What I don't like is when people only reply with a few words or, mostly, something that doesn't contribute to the conversation. Heck, anybody that types a paragraph is usually not posting for points. There are exceptions, as always. Also, those with over 150 posts are usually legit. It's clear they are simply active in the forums, enjoy the discussions, and aren't concerned about points.

Pruning
We do have the ability to "prune" old posts. I have done this in the past but haven't done it for quite some time. The reason I haven't is because I was trying to avoid multiple threads of the same topic as well as the ability to search back for something that might have been useful or insightful. I can start doing this again if people want.

Moderators
It appears I need more moderators and I'll make a post stating that I want to recruit more. I will also be dividing them into sections. viewtopic.php?p=22981

I have enjoyed being in the forums but was kinda skittish at first, I didn't think anyone would really care what I had to say. Plus I was a little intimidated, I didn't want to get corrected on my grammar or spelling and the fear of backlash from someone really not liking my point of view. Then when I just dove in, braved the waters and I was hooked :!: At first it was cool to get points then I ended up just liking the forums for what they are and the points no longer mattered. Is there a cut off on points to where you stop collecting them?

Sub I am so not technically inclined so as much as I would love to help you out, I am afraid I lack the computer skills, plus I am sure my boss would frown on it here at work  go figure....ha ha ha But if there is anything that I might be able to help out with I would be glad to, I love this site!!! Thanks for doing such a great job and having the passion for doing it!

Thanks, bostoncg!

From what I've noticed on forums if you're saying something insighful or has substance, usually people are mature enough to discuss it. It's great that we have very little immaturity on this site.
